The driveway i rent is always blocked by the owner's family..what should i do?
i have my car and i rent an indoors driveway...almost everytime i take my car out or go back in someone is blocking the driveway..be it a neighboor or a family memeber and it is getting annoying..what rights d o i have? i know it is my money i pay..my first instinct is to break theier windows...but it is their family members..and i have talked to them and tell me to buzz the door to have the car moved..but i dont want that! i just want to go in and out!

I think I'd start needing to go out on errands every 15 minutes or so ... and buzz them each time, of course. I imagine they'd get sick of getting up to let me in and out and would eventually find somewhere else to park.

(And what the heck is an "indoors driveway" anyway? Wouldn't that simply be a "garage"?)

chatsplas
You have a choice: keep renting and keep buzzing. . . .asking them to keep your rented space free. . . .
OR find another space to rent. . .
If you rent the space, you have the right to exclusive use of it. . .and they are not fulfilling their obligations as lessor. . . .but if you make too much of a fuss, they may decide you're not worth the trouble. . . . .

You considered breaking a window? Two wrongs do not make a right. This is aggravating. They are very discourteous. There is probably nothing that you can do. Buzz the door and bite your tongue. When the lease expires, move.

You rent an indoors driveway? I have never heard of that! If you rent the driveway, no one should be blocking that. Tell them it is getting ridiculous that you have to ask every time you need your car. Involve the police if needed.

I'd like to see what an indoor driveway looks like, but if your renting in and can't have access, yu can have it towed.

They don't recognize your rights as a renter. They still think of the place as "theirs". Don't break windows. Move as soon as you are able. Or demand a rent reduction by providing a list of all the times when you were blocked-in..

They are trespassing on your access. The police are not the slightest bit interested in this, so do not call them. Explain nicely to them that you have paid for the right to come and go and you would like to be able to do that or would appreciate a refund for each time you are blocked in. The iron fist in this velvet glove is that you can then put up a sign clearly warning that "anyone parked here without permission will be towed at owner's risk and expense." Call a tow company and make an arrangement with them to come whenever you call, so you don't have to stand there convincing them each time that you have the right to have this driveway cleared, even though it isn't your "property."

gafpromise
If you are paying money then you have the right to free access. The landlord should put up a no parking sign. If you want to get tough you can start having them towed but that will likely end any amicable relationship with your landlord. Maybe put up no parking and towing signs yourself? I think there has to be a warning before you tow, the area has to be clearly marked as "no parking or you will be towed".

golferwhoworks
tell them the next time you are not buzzing them that you will call a tow service and they can pick it up from them at their expense since you have rights

The first time you have their car towed it will probably stop. Trouble will soon begin. If you take them to court you will probably be asked to move.
If it was me I would look for another place to live. Give them your thirty days notice to leave and explain why.

Driveway or parking spot? They are two different things. You do not rent a driveway, only a space.
