Contact your county courthouse. Have as much information as possible. Address, Owner etc... You can try the County Recorder/County Clerks office and if they can't help you try the Circuit Clerk's Office. You may have to contact the Tax office and have them look up the legal description of the property for you, which if they go by address they should be able to do. What one office doesn't know, another probably will.

There are all kinds of forclosure websites. If it is in foreclosure, they still must give you 30 days notice to vacate.

You need to check at the County Courthouse. The recorders office will have anything filed against the property (notice of default, etc.) If you know a real estate agent or a title/escrow person, they should have access to the information as well.

Contact the bank that holds the loan.

Stop paying the rent and you'll find out immediately!

you cant find out the truth by going to the local court house and look in the lis pendens. if you don't understand legal wording or don't know how to find this information ask someone in the courthouse to help you and i'm sure that they would gladly assist you. you probably will not get a true answer from the landlord because if the property is in foreclosure this will be to embarassing for him. Foreclosure websites are just a waste of money so don't go there. The bank can not release any information to you b/c your name doesn't appear on the loan. The only true way to find out is your local courthouse. I would reccommend that you don't pay any other rent payments until you find out the truth, because if the property is in foreclosure you will have to find another place to live so use that money towards your new place instead of just giving the money to someone that is just going to pocket it and not live up to his obligations.
