Is this illegal. They went to transfer my electricity in my new house frrom the landlords to my name. They cut it off Friday and never cut it back on. I called GA Power and they said their first appt to turn it back on was Monday. I had no where else for my baby to stay so I had someone cut the electricity back on. What will my punishment be? They are coming to cut it on today and well..... It is already on. |

theres nothing you could have done.
the landlord shouldnt have done that. he should have informed the electric company that he is no longer living at the property but a young woman has moved in with a child. they wouldnt have cut off the electric.
they would have just ended his payment there and started yours from that dayyou moved in. it was the landlords job to inform the elec co, and had no right to cut it off knowing it wouldnt get put back on till after the weekend.
if the elec co bill you, tell them to take it up with the landlord for being unconciderate and not informing them properly. |

I would have to assume that it is illegal. Perhaps you could say you thought they must have come early, because the power came back on. Don't tell them that your friend did it, or you'll definitely get into trouble. In the future, stay in a hotel or something, because you really should not do something like that. Electricity is very unpredictable. Your friend could have been killed. |

I wouldn't worry about it too much. They'll have no idea. It's odd they shut it off though, usually they just change the name on the account and then send a reader out there for a final reading.
I've done it with Comcast several times. I've moved in and they take 2 weeks to come out, just go out to the box and turn it on my self, the tech shows up and doesn't think twice. |

if you cut it off for the few hours today..they will bill the other guy..
go out..when they come and tell them you want a record of the meter..for your record of payments..
for the inconvenience.... you might as well..take advantage of the situation..
ultimate the landlord has to pay the hydro..if you do not..it is part of owning property..

your punishment will be nothing. i did that once. they dont know who could have turned them on or when. some friendly advice dont write important things like this on the web o.k. nothing is gonna happen so stop worrying. |
