As you say it's a council house and they will have a valuation for it as they are required by law to list all assets for the auditors every year. They come to your house to check if you have added value by installing Central heating or a new bathroom as they cannot charge you for anything you have done to increase the value. if you damage the house they will not drop the price as it would be obvious that it was damage and not the condition of the house through wear and tear. Most councils have a stock condition survey independently done every few years and they will have a report on the condition of the house sitting on file. |

You dont need to reduce the value of the property to get it for a lower price. I have bought mine Improveing the value of the property will get you a discount too. Because the council discount the cost of any improvements you have made.
You can get a kitchen and fit it your self for around 500 i spend £800 on my kitchen and when it come to valueing they discounted £4000
I spend 400 on my bathroom and had 1300 discounted and spend 1000 on new windowns and doors and had just under 3000 discounted. |

I would just like to say that you get a very good discount when buying a council house, the price is not based on what it looks like inside, it's were it's situated, how many rooms it has, size of land etc. You would'nt be able to buy a house in the private sector for the amount the council will ask for, as for refusing to pay the amount they do ask for, then expecting them to lower the price as was stated earlier, i don't believe that to be true, let's face it's no skin off their noses if you don't buy they still get your rent, go ahead get yourself on the property ladder, you can't lose good luck. |

i have heard that if you keep refusing to pay the price they give you they will eventually lower it not sure how true this is and they cant add value of things you may have done to it it pretty much goes by what it would cost to rebuild it as it was built
ive also heard of people damageing their house to lower price dont know how true this is either but then you have to fix it again so is there really any point.dont think theres really any way of not paying full price for it apart from the discount basically thats so you will keep paying them high rent till you can afford to buy it |
