Trying to sell my house, why won't anyone put a bid on it?

Additional Details
I am in the Northern part of Minnesota, town of about 11,000. There are quite a few house on the market here, none of which have a pending sale, or sold sign on them. Does the market get started more in April? May? Or is the subprime mortgage people causing the slow down on the housing market? I dont want to have to have my house on the market for 6 months. We have painted, steam cleaned the carpets, got rid of our clutter, everything we could do to make our house sellable.

Not the best market to sell, combined with the collapse of the sub-prime lending means a smaller group of people able to get credit to buy

My condo was on the market all summer, we delisted and relisted and nothing....no bids....then come November all of a sudden 3 different people were interested in it at the same time, 2 of them had a bidding war and I got about 15 grand MORE than what I was asking..... It's just timing. If your asking for too much, be realistic.

Really not enough information here. I would have to guess that the home is overpriced. The market is driven buy what consumers are willing to pay for a home, not what you want to get for the home. I am sure that if you are realistic about the asking price, no matter what the condition, you will be able to move the home in 2 months period of time.
The first thing i ask a client when i go to list a house is "do you want to sell" I ask this because if you do, then you have to price the home to sell. So many people do not want to sell, they want to test the waters, "well we would sell if we got what we wanted" To me that's a waste of time, because what you want, and what are buyer will pay are 2 different things right now.
Do not listen to Drew, he is a moron. That's his answer to every question.
Good luck, be realistic and you will sell it.

is your house big, small, how many bedroonms any bugs? Is it just that the people dont like you? Did you have open house? Why dont you make the house look nice?

Ken
No one could possibly answer this question without more information. Your house will sell if it is competitively priced in the market in which it is located. Its that simple. If it is overpriced it won't sell. Sometimes unique properties take time to find a buyer that likes that particular property.

market sucks.

It may be overpriced or you are in a slow market. There's not enough information in your question to give a definitive answer. The best way to sell you home is to find the most successful realtor in your area. He/she will then give you ideas on how to sell your home and for what price.

Good luck

Location does count for a lot but there is nothing you can do to change the location if that is not in your favor.

Focus on the things you can change to make your house have more appeal.

Re-paint any bright colors to a neutral shade. The idea is for people to come into your home and be able to picture themselves there.

Plant flowers. Its all about "curb appeal." Planting flowers, even in a pot on the front steps or porch, will help make the house seem homey. Along this line, depending on your area, putting out an American flag (make sure its not faded) will also help.

REMOVE CLUTTER!!! Nothing turns buyers away like a messy house. Piles of laundry, piles of bills and paper on the counter and tables, beds that arent made, messy closets, etc.
These all make your home seem smaller.

Get rid of offensive smells. Maybe you have cats, or you smoke or you like to cook with lots of curry... either way, most people are turned off by the smell and can't see your house b/c the smell gets in the way. Light candles, clean your carpets, do what you need to but get rid of any smells!

If your house has lots of cosmetic issues, the buyers will think you have taken poor care of all parts of your home... and are less likely to make an offer AND if they do, it'll be a low offer.

Good Luck!!!

Location is everything. There is a house on my block that has been for sale for 18 months and 3 different realators. So it isnt going to happen overnight.
