Yes I could, but only in an AWFUL area, notorious country wide!! I live in Gosport, in Hampshire, and the only place I could afford is an estate, which is due to be compulsory purchased in the next two years. Some 3 bed maisonettes there go for as little as £14,000 (yes thats 14, not 140).
However, realistically, to buy a place where I would want my kids to grow up, no I can't afford it. I am a trainee Nursery Nurse, and my partner a deputy kitchen manager, together we earn only about £15,000 a year. To buy a house here, we would need to earn around 21,000, and that would get us about £120,000 to buy with, equating in this area at the most to a 2 bed flat, which with 2 kids isn't big enough!!

No, here in Italy where I live I cannot afford to buy a house and I used to work as a receptionist.I guess that even my whole life span won't be enough to buy a house nowadays.
That's why I already gave up the idea of buying one. |

south wales is quite cheap at the mo,but rising fast!..we paid 135k..its now worth 170k 18 months later. we have a mortgage and can afford it,but we did not go to our limit.we knew what we could afford ourselves,with other bills etc.my husband is a general manager and earns about 42k a year,but he supports me and our 4 kids on that. |

We are in UK. My husband is a Manager for a sign company. We live in Essex and on my husband's wage (which is good) we do not have any chance of buying a house. I have come to the conclusion that we are probably better off being council tenants as any minor or major work is covered. I do not think we would want to own now anyway. |

I live in a very Jewish area which has hiked the price of property sky high. We used to be a quaint little village until we had the synagogue built. Now all local older families who have lived here for generations have had all the family move far away as they cannot buy one near here. |

I know you only said UK, but this is something close to my heart! I live in Australia and the prices are through the roof at present. I have to rent now as there is no way I can afford to get back into the property market. The house I am renting has smallish living areas, no lawn or garden except some garden beds and is behind another house. It is on the market by the owners for $535,000.00 AUD. Ridiculous! It was easy for my parents, hard for my generation and will be impossible for my childrens' generation. Oh, and I am in Human Resources and Management. |
