Hello I'm wondering if there are any mortgages out there that take security of another property as a deposit? I cannot get a mortgage due to my ex husband making me have to go bankrupt (Sept 2008) and my fiance has slight bad credit.(hes had mortgages before) I have had mortgages previously so I have some idea of what to expect. I know there are guarantor mortgages out there. However the only way I can see us ever getting on the property ladder is if either of our parents die...I don't want to wait until that happens and I don't like to think about it. However both our parents own their property and my parents would have to split their property between myself and my brother but my fiance is an only child so the house will be left to him. I can't see us ever getting on the property ladder. I am currently renting a 4 bed detached for £750pcm but I have only an 18 month rental agreement. Then this property will go up for sale.
Are there any mortgages out there for the likes of us?
You can't use collateral as a deposit but if it is an asset of yours, it will be taken into account when assessing your net worth. If it is a buy-to-let, you can use the income.
But it sounds as if there are lots of reasons why you should sit tight and continue to be a renter. Save hard, get married and look again in 18 months. House prices could go lower and they certainly are not going higher any time soon.
