Hi,
Basically i am in my first year of uni and applied for accomodation to late and ended up having to find a house at the last minute. I ended up in a house that i hadn't seen, and it's in a state. The agency (one useless man) who was looking after a group of houses said he would get things sorted, and set up a contract, but he didn't. The house has now been taken over by a more professional agency who have sorted out the major problems e.g. leaking pipe which was coming through the kitchen cealing, though seem unwilling to do anything else. I think this is because the landlords have told them not to as they want to convert to residential rather than a student house. I am moving out this month i.e. June and have paid my months rent. I went into the house in October so its been 9 months. I doubt i will get my deposit back as when the guy from the new agency came he seemed unaware anyone had paid a deposit and that i was the only one =/ apparently. As there was no lease length discussed am i liable to pay any damages if i move out now?

Also the water bill was suposed to be included in the rent, but got cut out half way through, and a water bill has come through for £350 roughly (this is 3 months) with my name (spelt very incorrectly). The bill is an outrageous amount and i didn't sign anything to say that they could put the bill in my name. Do i have to pay?

All of my payments were done by standing order, so all the amounts are on my banks statements. The amount for the deposit is present in the first payment, and my rent is reduced by £7 per month when i was told we were to pay the water. There are no written agreements of any kind unfortunatly. I just want to know where I stand as i don't think i will get chased by the current agency as they seem to want everyone out as soon as possible so they can renevate the house and get a family in. I think the other tenenants aren't paying their rent thats why. Thats good about the utility bill as the amount is obviously outstanding from before i even entered the house which is the same with electricity and gas which is now on a meter (with 1k debt).
