heavymetalbitch | Viewed a new rental property today and the estate agent said? |
if you rent an unfurnished property the council tax will be less than a furnished one. is this correct. or are they lying to try and get us to sign the contract? |

Lying and trying to get you to sign the contract. Council tax band is based on the market value of a property on 1st April 1991. If and when you get a tenancy agreement you are able to appeal against the banding if you are responsible for payment of the council tax. It's then got nothing to do with the landlord (or the estate agent). |

hahaha thats a good one! Thats absolute lies. |

LIE ..........He is confusing it with when the flat is not tenanted, if the flat is furnished or unfurnished, it makes a difference to the council tax, in some cases, not all.
If he is lying about this then watch him on the important things. Best thing is ask for him to put it all in writing! bet he wont.
Be careful. |

Total lies!! |

I wouldn't think it would make a difference! The only thing that would make a difference is whether you lived there on your own or with a partner. |

its lies, you can rent a house stuffed full of furniture or totally bare this makes no difference to the council tax what so ever.
They are probably trying to off load you with a property that they may have difficulty renting out, what you have to remember is that when a property gets rented out the estate agents get a certain percentage on the rent you pay so it would be in their best interest to get people moved in quick.
I would tell the estate agent to go back and learn their job properly, the RENT may be cheaper,if its unfurnished but not the council tax.
If you need to find out which band your property is in go to your local council office and they will tell you how much it will be, they have with every property i have rented. |

lies it goes on how much the property is valued at not weather its furnished or not but if there is no one in the property example if you took the property on and wont be moving in for a month the council tax should be at a reduced rate for the first month |
|

The agent is a moron if they've told you that. It is completely incorrect.
If you are a sole resident, you will get a 25% reduction on Council Tax.
Furnished or unfurnished - council tax is the same. |
