A home inspector came to my house today requested by the person who is going to buy my house. I was requested to leave and take my dogs with me for 4 hours, which was inconvienient, but understandable. When I got home, after toting my dogs around with me for 4 hours, I let them outside, and went back into the car to get my sleeping son, and found my dogs running loose in the neighborhood! He did not shut my gate back! Luckily after 20 minutes of chasing, I was able to get them back. Then, I walk back into my house. Every cabinet he looked in, pretty much all were wide open. All of my blinds in my house were all lopsided and pulled open all crooked. All of the my chairs that go to my table, and up agaist the bar were all in the middle of the room. Also, he left hundreds of black scuff marks and black footprints all over my freshly mopped ceramic tile floor! It just seems to me, that he should have left my house as he found it. He is lucky my dogs did not get hit by cars. So Careless!!!! Additional Details He also left the toilet seat up as well, which makes me think he used the bathroom while he was there! Yuck! |

Why did you have to chase your dogs? Don't they have names? |

i would call the company and let them know how you returned to your house and what it looked like the is without doubt very unprofessional |

I'd call and complain and report this to your realtor and the folks buying your home. And new jersey above me is absolutely correct. You did not have to leave him alone in your own home (better check for hidden video cameras now, aack!) |

That's ridiculous! |

No. And never leave a stranger alone in your house. |

You did not have to leave..it is still your house. I would have kicked him out if he asked me to leave. When I was selling my house...it was by appointment only because I have dogs. One time a realtor came in with a client and asked me to leave and take the dogs with me! Boy was he shocked when I told her that I will not be told to leave my own house. |

report him to the new owner..their realtor...and yours! Also, you might want to contact the local Realtor's association...and the bank that is involved in the real estate transaction. |

Did you check your things? Yes, I was wondering why he had to open the cabinets. That's not right. That should be reported. |

I am a Realtor and my husband is a Home Inspector. That was, indeed ridiculous. There were also some wrong replies. It depends on the custom in your area of course, but it was completely appropriate to ask that you not be there. Your Realtor could have been there for you and the buyer's Realtor should have been there with the buyers if they were present or not. Doors should have been closed and the house should have been left exactly as it was found, but the Inspector's job is to check every door, drawer, etc. It also depends on the size of home that you have as to how long it takes. 4 hours is not out of the question. If an inspector is there only one hour, there is no way that he walked the roof, checked every outlet, door, light fixture, heating and cooling, opened every window, checked every, sink, tub, toilet, the basement, electrical service, etc. Please report him to the Realtors involved. They may not be aware of his ineptness. Report him to ASHI also if he is certified thru them. Most Home Inspectors are true professionals. I am sorry that you got a clunker. |

No, I don't see why he would have to open every cabinet and move your chairs around. I think he was just snooping around, possibly looking at your underwear, too. Four hours is too long for a home inspection. A thorough home inspection should take about one hour. I would report his behavior to his company and then file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
Have fun. |

His behavior was very un-professional. I would never leave the house. Lets just say, the people that are looking to buy your house hired this guy under the table because he has no real job. They told him to do what he needed to discreetly so that they could talk you down on the offer they are going to make. Just a possibility. But next time tell them that you prefer to stay there and observe what he finds out. |

That's not only unprofessional but plain out RUDE! I would definitely be giving them a phone call. You are still living in that house and it should be in the same condition as it was when he first arrived. Definitely give them a call. I would be asking if he enjoys making a living walking in people's homes, trashing them, then leaving. Ask does he get a big thrill when he's sleeping at night knowing everybody is cleaning up after him. What a jerk! He would be hearing from me. |
