Goodbye
Water or landlord problem?
I rent out an attic apartment in a pretty old mansion. About a month ago, the water pressure in my apartment was pretty bad, and at moments it would sputter out of the faucet (air in the pipes?), or was completely dry. Then the problem went away, I figured it was these food booths that set up for a festival right across the street from me, hooked into the water or something, but then about a week after it was okay, it started up again! I confronted my landlord about it last week, and he said that he had to call the water dept., it is now a week later and the water is terrible, the toilet makes funny noises when it flushes and no water coming out of the faucet happens more frequently now, and I haven't heard from the landlord. And it just isn't me, the guy in the apartment below me said that he didn't even have enough water to take a bath, and he thinks that the people below HIM have a washer. What should I do? Call the landlord again? Move out? What? This is my first apartment too.

Thanks everyone for your answers, I'm going to call the landlord again when I get home tonight and talk to the neighbor below me.

I have not had a good experience in renting an apartment in a house. Your best bet is to move somewhere that is professionally managed. Also, check out what others say about the complex before you sign anything.

If this is something that is bothering you too much, then start looking for a new apartment if you can afford to make a move like that. If you can handle it, then keep calling your landlord, call the water dept. Ask your friends that live in the mansion below you to help pitch in the fees so you guys can get some decent plumbing...since your landlord obviously hasnt done anything. Have you tried calling the water dept. recently?

This is a landlord issue... Keep bugging him if he does nothing start withholding rent and get ahold of the landlord tenant thing for your county.... this is a healh issue and he can get a hefty fine for something like this...

yeah just give him a call and ask if he was able to talk to the water dept because its worse now than it was when you told him about it. then in your lease it should tell you how to file a grievence with the landlord if he does not have a clause with that in it you may have to call the city and report him.

keep calling the landlord.do not call the water people youself
they will send you the bill because you would be the one requesting the service.

You can request repairs in writing and give him time to respond or repair (if you read your lease there should be some sort of reference regarding the time frame). If he can't fix it (possible) you should be allowed to break your lease and move out.

Tyrus
Pester the landlord until he does something to fix it, if no results within 1 week, then demand your money back and move out.

Call the landord first...then report his butt if doesn't fix it....then move out if all else fails!

get a tenneents rights booklet. a land lord has to fix a problem like water going to your apt.In some states you can call a plumber and have it charge to the land lord. Be sure to document ..who you called..names ,phone #;s. look up tennants rites locl and state. theres alot you can do;

Miss Texas
Contact the water dept. yourself. Sounds as though they or the landlord have a broken water line that goes or is on the property.

If it is on the property, they will kindly send the bill to the owner and you will have your water back !
