We got an elevator in our house, but can never use it. Should we complain to the landlord?
Some weeks ago, an elevator was installed in our house and in the beginning, we (8 tenants in a shared house) were quite happy with it. But soon we found out that we can hardly use it and we wondered if we should complain to our landlord about it.
On the sign inside it says "only 8 people", but even though we are 8 parties, it's very unlikely that 8 people want to use it at the same time. So we always have to wait till we are 8, sometimes for a whole hour. We don't know if it's safe to use it with only one or two persons, when it explicitely says 8.
Should we ask our landlord for an elevator which can be used by fewer people, so we don't have to wait so long every day?

"only 8" means no more than 8, because it will exceed the weight limit. there is no "minimum weight limit" or "minimum ocupancy limit" for elevators. If it can run with nobody in it (and it can, how do you think it gets down to you?) than it can run with only one or two people. Don't you have stairs?

Are you really thick or just a troll?

r u retarded?

There should be an inspection certificate which includes the weight limit for the elevator. You can run the elevator with nothing in it or filled to that limit.

Only 8 people probably means 8 people max.

If there isn't an inspection cert then you should notify someone because it's the law to have elevators inspected.

I'm sorry i can't comment the way i would like without fear of getting that email about a bad response for insulting a question giver.

schwildcat1977
It means no MORE than 8 people dumb as$. If this is a serious question - go get your head checked.

I'm sorry for being rude- but this is a really stupid question.

Dave
it means that only up to 8 people can use it.. as in, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7, or 8 people can use it.. or none,

and you cant complain, if you have stairs use em'.. the elevator's an extra..

for all he wants, he could install a waterslide and a fireman's pole to get downstairs

Call your landlord to come over to your apartment. At least, if you have seven people waiting, the landlord can act as the eighth, giving you peace of mind.

Use the stairs, it's good exercise.

You have no grounds for complaining. It isn't your property and the landlord can do with it as he/she wishes within the city/state guidelines.
