depends if its with an estate agent or a private landlord.
an estate agent will take you to court. plus if you put down a garantour on the contract- they'll try to take cash from them.
if its a private landlord, theres nothing he/she can do. they wont bother trying to track you down if you leave the area because its costing them more cash.
If they decide to find you they can take you to court, which is more cash on coming out of them. this dont happen though.
to be honest within the last year ive rented 4 houses in different areas and ive ran without paying rent. not one has caught up with me because im fast. but then again if they do catch up with me, i have the money to rent another house somewhere else.
basically theres nothing they can do if you've gone other than they get to keep your deposit.
but have to realise once you've rented somewhere else you are then registered at living at this address and if your running from a estate agent- they can catch up with you by checking on computers where your registered in living.
just want to know are you running from dept? I am and ive been good at avoiding it so far, but i am just a con.
want advice on how to avoid dept email me, because it aint easy |

You lose all rights once you decide to run off without paying. You become no more than a common thief or fraudster and the landlord can pursue you to the ends of the earth to get what you owe. I hope he does. |

Your rights are he can break your legs. |

Your landlord is in his rights to claim the money from you. Would you really want this hanging over your head. You have stayed in his property, so why do you not want to pay for what you have received from him. It is a shame that people do this - it makes it bad for others who want to rent. Do the decent thing and make arrangements for paying the rent, especially if you are experiencing financial problems at the moment. Go and speak to the Citizens Advice Bureau or your landlord. |

Your rights are jack all if you do a runner. If you have been let down by your landlord or you are upset about your terms, you have to speak about it to him/her.
Not only will you lose your deposit, you are also liable for any other damage or costs incurred. |

Be sure you never want to use him as a referee for your next property.
You will certainly lose your deposit. If he finds oput where you are he can take court procedings against you and this will affect your credit rating. |

you could do a runner and the landlord could persue you for monies if he can find you. you will also lose any deposit that you paid upfront and lose your right to have your mail forwarded to your new address.regarding your rights, this is set out in your contract of tenancy that your landlord set up when you first rented the property. |

The landlord can retain your deposit if you paid one. If he knows where you work or can contact one of your referees he can find you. If he has your bank details he can find you. If he has your mobile phone number he can find you. If you register in the same area for council tax he can find you. If he hires a private detective he can find you. If he can sell your debt then the collection agency can find you. He can take you to small claims court and have a county court judgement entered against you and claim all expenses tracing you and prosecuting you.
I don't understand what you are asking about rights. If you are asking if you have the right to run away and not pay, no you don't. |

Not a good idea! The landlord will keep your deposit and hunt you down like a dog until he finds you. This will bring bad credit on your behalf and you'll have trouble finding accomodation/credit in the future. Basically, it'll haunt you forever! |

Why would you want to do that? Never cheat someone out of something that is rightfully theirs. Bad karma. |

Don't be so mean. How would you feel if you were a landlord and somebody ran away without paying. They have bills as well you know |

Do a runner and lose your damage deposit and any belongings you left behind, and lose any housing reference you thought you might get.
Then your landlord also has access to your mail box and can track you through your mail because you know if you do a change of address it won't kick in immediately.
You can also be sued for rent owed, but more than this, a lot of landlords today belong to associations which share information like who bolted on their rent.
Better to think this one through and like someone else said, talk to your landlord. If you cannot afford your rent, he/she may give you time to pay.
Your right is to move after giving 30 days notice in writing. |

Thats stupid. Your rights is to be responsible for your rent and pay when due, not to do the runner. The Landlord will certainly fcuk you if you do the runner and I pray he does that. If you can no longer afford the rent then have a discussion with your landlord and make alternative arrangements for paying or he might let you go anyway. If he has your deposit he might then not reimburse you that. Thats why landlords insist on paying a deposit at the beginning of the tenancy as there are irresponsible like you out there. |

You sound like the sort of person that doesn't deserve to rent anywhere!!!!
He can take you to court to get what money he is owed!!!! |

I am not sure what you are talking about but if you do improvements to the house without the landlords full agreement in writing and you omit paying rent you risk being evicted.
Your landlord depends on the money the rent brings in to pay the note on the house. They do not need the house updated. They need the rent. |

dont make the mistake of doing a runner, as you will find it hard to ever get another rented accommodation as they will look for your previous history.
also the landlord has the right to search for you and demand the money, you could also be taken to court. better of just paying the money and leaving the right way! |

haha bit tight are we? i left a place i lived at but was medically not well... yeah sure lol, that's what i said and got out scott free of a months rent, just had to sign my bond over but i got that originally thru the government bond scheme and they got it back. Look at your tenancy agreement and find the loop whole.
Like some said, you risk a bad record but that's bout it, if ya wanna rent again you'll jus need someone else's name on the lease. good luck dude, totally love ya question, thanks 4 a laugh... others feel your pain =), well at least i have |
