You don't have to maintain your own lawn, it's cheaper than owning a home, and you and your neighbors become a close knit family. It's a lot of fun. I've been in my apartment for two years now and as much as I need a bigger place, I love it there!!

SmartA$$
cheaper monthly payment than a house
no maintenance: if anything breaks its your landlord's problem
extras: like pools, weight rooms etc.

1 - When things break down you call someone and they fix it

2 - No property taxes

3 - Less room = lower gas/electric bills

Cheyenne
I have rented my entire life.
If you move a lot (because of a job or something) you do not have to wait for a sale to go through, just notify the owner.

No maintenance-if the furnace breaks you just call the owner & they fix it.

No yardwork

Some have pools or party rooms

The payments are lower than a mortgage.

The cons would be: You don't have any equity into an apartment

You can't make any changes without the owners consent (a lot of owners will be ok as long as it is an improvement)

Smaller size

You pay all bills if you own a house. Most apartments are your rent + gas & electric. If you own a house you pay gas, electric, water, sewage, garbage + your property taxes.

Tremain B
Well its ok for temporary but its better to buy a house and make payments on the house instead of paying rent to someone else.
Because the rent money is gone but making payments on a house you bought goes into your house that you can sell later so you dont lose anything.

flexible, cost of repairs, upkeep

Freedom of Movement
My wife may take a job in another state (true story) about 2000 miles from our current home. So, if she takes the job we need to either sell our current house or find a renter.

Lower Up Front Expenses
Compare the three months up font for an apartment vs the down payment on a house or condo.

Lower Monthly Expense
Until you own a house you can't understand how much it really costs for upkeep. In fact, some major financial gurus make good arguments for renting an apartment and investing the difference for a better financial result.

But, keep in mind that if you rent an apartment you can't play your music as loud as you may want to. ;)
