T-girl | What are the pros and cons about living in a mobil home? |
What is it like? Is it as bad as the TV says it is? I saw the inside of one today and I thought they were pretty nice. So why don't they give positive advertisements? Please any info is great! Thanks! |

I live in Florida....mobile homes are not hurricane proof....they are small and easy to keep maintained and if you get pissed at your neighbors you can put the wheels down and move somewhere else....... |

We bought a new Shult Mobile home in 1990 and are still here.
It is fine living in one. We live in a very nice park and the rules are easy to live with..they do not Rent so that is better because you have to own your home. There are beautiful double wides here too. I have all the comforts AC and my washer and dryer here too. It has allowed us to do alot more things. Only thing is my daughter moved out later when she graduated form High School but now her room is our computer/sewing room. |

A mobile home, most unfortunately and erroneously, carries a stigma of low income, down-&-out occupants.
Hopefully this will change in time, with the prices of houses so far out of reach of the average young worker.
Yes, the interiors of mobile homes are VERY nice, I have seen them and am impressed, like you are. Its hard to tell the difference between a mobile and a conventional home when one is inside.
The operational costs of mobiles are way less than landed property.
The only 2 real problems are that mobiles are usually in a mobile home park, where your neighbors may not be the best, and the possibility of a tornado wiping everything out. |

pros- inexpensive
cons- pipes freeze easily maintnance can be just as costly as house and unfortunately the reason they have bad names is because they are usually surroune by other mobile homes which are also inexpensive and tend to bring in riff raff neighbors |

Pros-Can move your house anywhere you want.
Cons-IT'S A MOBILE HOME! |

That's a stereotype. Today's mobile homes are very affordable, very energy efficient and usually come equipped with a lot more appliances, and extras (Whirlpool tubs etc) than a "regular" home would.
The disadvantage is the stigma. Don't worry about the stigma. It's false. A mobile or manufactured or modular home is a great option these days and you will save a ton of money. Use it to buy land....... |

pro...cheaper
con...don't be in a hurricane. also some are shoddily made. |

They are nice and affordable.. but they are still dangerous like in hurricanes and tornadoes, but what isnt? I still want to brick my manufactured home the second I put it on some farm land. And I want to add two rooms to it. For extra space like a pool table room and one more bedroom.. Just in case.. but yeah, they are cool and it's the stereotype for "mobile homes" that bad.. Those pull behind trailers like you see on the interstate is where the actual negative connotation comes from. |

PRO
Inexpensive
CONS
Land rent
Maintenance (more than a house or condo)
Weather, ie tornadoes
Trailer park trash
No equity |

Pros: More affordable than house ownership or appartment rent, less furniture to own. Cons: Major attractors of weather--especially severe thunderstorns, wind, and tornadoes. Storms like that, despite well-anchoring, come nearer to tearing them apart because of their light weight and steel construction (it attracts lightning). Good luck! |
