What can I do if a cop moves into my apartment?
I live in a college styled apartments and one of our roommates is moving out. I recently found out that the new roommate moving in might be a police officer.

Not that I break the law often (or any major laws at that), but it is a college apartment. I also have issues with having to worry about every little thing I do. I feel my right to privacy is being invaded and now I won't be able to feel comfortable in my own apartment.

Is there anything I can do? Or has anyone dealt with this type of situation before? Any tips?
Additional Details
This is a legitimate question, for all the people complaining on what I could possibly be doing illegal. Maybe you forgot the part where I mentioned a college apartment.

That means there are parties and I usually host a few, but with a cop being present it will make everyone in the apartment uncomfortable.

BTW Complaining, is not an answer, earn your points somewhere else.

Well, him being a cop doesn't infringe on your privacy but I understand what you mean. I would discuss this with your other roommates and see how they feel. You also might want to speak with your new roommate and see how he feels.

I had a buddy that lived with a cop that was a user of a certain "herbal supplement". He was just courteous about it and kept it in his room. It worked out for them.

If thats not going to work for you and you still feel the same way, you might want to move. I know that might not be what you want to hear but your new roommate has just as many rights as you do if he's paying rent.

Good luck.

You cant do much unless YOU want to move. Give the guy a chance! I have some friends that are cops and they are pretty cool to hang out with. They might drink just like you! There are benefits to having a cop for a friend, trust me. I say give it a chance, because chances are he or she isnt that bad.

Get a life. He's got as much right to live there as you do.

boatwoman
Why are you so afraid to live next to a cop? They live normal lives to and can be alot of fun to party with.

I'm in a civic organization with dozens of cops in it and they are some of the rowdiest guys in the club. One thing about having a cop as a friend is that they don't just bring the hammer down on you for doing something somewhat illegal. They will talk with you about it first. Cops aren't out to get people. Especially people they have to live with.

I think you're making too much out of it.

Dude, is everything you do illegal? Cops are people too - just because he's a cop doesn't mean he's going to look to arrest people he lives with - CHILL it will be fine.

Landlord
Cops and firefighters are both pretty roudy guys.

They enjoy a good party too, you will likely find that he is a great guy.

Unless you are selling drugs in your apartment or bringing minors in for anything you should not have any concerns.

Sorry for your situation, but the management is entitled to rent to whomever they choose. Has it ever occurred to you that management is THRILLED to have a law enforcement officer living there ?

Your rights to privacy are not being invaded anymore than they would be with any other type of tenant.

Dstepan
yeah you can file for a right of removal so that he can't live in the same apartment as you.

.... seriously, what do you think you could do? People have the right to live where they choose, and because you are afraid you may be breaking the law ( if you weren't they why would it matter) doesn't change that.

goz1111
few options then to move into a new rental if possible
