What can I do legally to get even with a nasty landlord??
I know there must be a way to win a lawsuit against a landlord and to get even with him. He has never fixed anything, the pipes are frozen, the electric is faulty, the basement has black mold and I had to clean up everything, it was disgusting. I've been here 6 months and I am moving, but I don't want to give him any more money to live in this gross place. I do owe him some rent for the last 2 months, thinking he would fix stuff, but all he does is threaten me with eviction. And in addition, he signed my name to the lease for insurance reasons, so I never even signed the lease.
Whats up with that? He sends me nasty emails calling me names and telling me he will take me to court and get everything he can from me; its really getting on my nerves. I just want to get out and get even with this nast landlord. Help!!??

It is called intermediation. Tell him, take me to court. Fact is give him the phone number and a Lawyers name in town that might take his case. The worse thing he can do is take you to small claims court. In the mean time, acquire documentation, digital pictures and of course Mold pictures. Complain about sinus problems and discomfort. Also do some research that Mold will do damage to your respiratory.
If he does not fix anything or press charges against you, you will have counter suite against him. CDC would love to see this mess. There are laws that will convict slum Lords. So how far does he want to take this? Tell him you are in it for the long hall.

Legally, you are stuck toyour lease. The best thing to do is not withhold rent as your lease will be brought to court. You can try to sue him for those reasons, but a judge will grant only your right to break the lease, that's about all.
To get even, I would contact the city and suggest the place be condemned, this will give your landlord some work to do and will cause him some major headaches. Contact the city council, housing authority, etc.

By law in most states, you get 30 days from the eviction notice to move out. You will get blackballed as a renter for nonpayment of rent. Countersuit is the only recourse I see. Did you not observe any of this crap when you looked at the place before moving in? The law is more of a protection for the landlord.

Before you leave.....get the city/county building inspector to come and inspect the home.....after he notes all the defaults get a written statement or copy of the existing problems..for court purposes...because he will sue you to get back rent.

The city/county will condemn his property until everything is fixed..if it's fixable.

In most places you can legally avoid paying the rent if the place is deemed unlivable. The requirements for livability are pretty high so I bet your place would not pass. You will have to study the requirements in your state and county. Do on-line search for details. If the place does not meet the requirement, turn him in. That is a fair payback for his nastiness.
On another note: You are 2 months late on payments? That tends to make landlords less friendly. Pay your bills on time for a more pleasant relationship with future landlords. Many will kick you out after 15 days late. He probably didn't because his place is not that desirable.

Need additional info to really help you. What state are you in? Take photos of everything and you should have a local agency you can call and turn him in for violations. Start with your county and move onto State agancys. You will find them in the phone book. Most states have tenant lanlord handbooks explaining the laws. You can find them online.

Somethings not right here. If he signed your name to lease that is against the law. Also if the place you live is in need of repair or has bad mold call your local health department. Then contact your housing commission and tell them what is going on. They also will guide you to your next step.

Why would you move into a place with all the problems you described (frozen pipes, mold, electric problems), I believe it's more to your story. Pay your rent and move.

Good Grief arent we all.Read the tentant-landlord handbook in your state..google it you got to have adobe reader.Keep a paper trail of all complaints on paper and copy them w/ dates. And take pictures of everything.Just my luck I lost my cam.:(

Take him to court and call legal aid you can even be a real ***** and call the news like problem solvers, haha and the court system can tell when cdocuments have been forged big no no and save those email that is pure luck you have those and his dumbass for sending them.Apparently he has sucked you dry or you dont have the money to move or that would be the #1 thing to do.Sue Him!!!!

MeInUSA
Just move on and forget about it..there are lots of jerks in life ..it's not worth getting messed up about it.. (I suggest you DO keep the e-mails he sent you in case he drags you to court..you can prove to the judge he is a jerk..)
Good luck!
