My ex-boyfriend paid my rent on-line 6/09 because I let him borrow money. He made a payment on his credit card and sent me the confirmation number (which I have). Two months later they send me a letter that says they had a glitch in their system and the payment was not processed and they want their money now. He is out of town and cannot check his statement but even if it did not take do I have any type of recourse to be allowed to pay it off in payments or after 2 months can they demand it in full? |

Blame on the bank or credit card company. I had experienced once after I refi my house and the first payment I set up online but it didn't go through. Lucky I called the mortgage company to check and they said the transaction did not go through. So I had to contact the bank and push them, I provide the account number and address everything again and I told them if they fail to send it to the mortgage company and they're responsible for the late payment. End up they somehow sent it and went through before the due date. The bank actually deducted the amount from my account but did not go through to reach the mortgage company. Beware.
If your boyfriend already sent, it's the bank that's responsible to have the money transact to the receiver. Make them pay whatever late charge occurred but you have to call the manager to make sure they did not receive the payment before complaining to the bank. With credit card, it's easier cos' they can just debit back to your account then you have to make the payment again. |

First thing you do is contact your boyfriend and verify that the charges did not process on his card. Out of town or not, he can check his statement online if he says he PAID online.
Your recourse is to pay it in full immediately, since it is already two months past due. Why should they give you even MORE time to pay ? You've already gotten two months interest free from them. |

They can demand it in full. What you need to show them if the confirmation number of the payment that was made. That should be sufficient for them to trace the transaction. He needs to provide a copy of the statement with the payment on it, and even out of town- he get that. Call him and have him call the credit card company. If he can get his statement electronically, he can email it to you to print and show the transaction.
And yes, they can demand it in full 2 months later. In their eyes it wasn't paid at all, and you are lucky they aren't charging alot of late fees. Just remain calm, talk to them like an adult and tell them the situation. Here is the confirmation number, this is how it was paid, etc. As far as making payments, that is up to them. They may agree to it instead of evicting you, but that is their choice- not yours. |

Ok...I fail to see where the problem is.
All you do is call the apartment complex and give them the confirmation number that you were given when the rent was paid. This allows for them to research the transaction.
If they claim they cannot file it, again, it's simple. Just have your boyfriend call his credit card company and find out if THEY ever sent the money to the apartment complex.
If they didn't...you owe it.

Simply show them the proof. When the BF comes back (in a few days, right?) have him confirm payment or see that it wasn't made. It any case the gltich is their fault and you won't have to pay late fees.
Keep that "glitch in their system" notice in case you have to sue them. |
