Well , you CAN find fairly decent apartments by individules who do not bother with a credit report ..so that should not be too big of a problem ...

You main thing is to have a source of income that the landlord can verify to make sure that you CAN afford the rent and utilities , if any ...

Money... lol
Usually being that young and inexperienced, you can expect to pay 3 months worth of full rent upfront.
1) first months rent
2)security deposit (which is equivalent to a months rent)
3)last month's rent

so say your place is $1000 a month, you'll need $3,000 just to get the place. never mind other bills.

The world of real estate is waiting for you. At age 18 you can sign legally binding contract and a lease is a legal contract. You check on www.craiglist.org and call or email the landlord. Some will be realtors; some will be the landlord themselves. You don't care. If you like what you see, ask if you can start with 6 months instead of 1 year. Do you know that not all true love lasts forever? If boyfriend goes back to his gradeschool crush, you have to keep paying for the rest of the lease. Make him tattoo your name all over his body before you sign the lease. Then you move in and begin your new life.

Ah, money? You will need a security deposit which is the same as your monthly rent just in case you leave, the owner won't get screwed and won't lose any money. In most cases home owners who rent appartments will require a security deposit plus the first month of rent so if rent is $700 you will need $1,400. $700 deposit and $700 first month. The easiest way to find a cheap appartment is by knowing someone who rents one like a good friend that can give you a good deal. Some owners also like you to sign a lease(try to avoid that at all costs, never sing a lease because you never know). A lease is usually for one year and it is a contract that basiclly says that you have to stay there paying rent for a year and you cant leave or move out. If you move out you will have to pay a full year of rent even when you don't live there. Some places include all or some utilities with the rent like free electriciy, hot water, cooking gas, and sometimes cable.( Beacause of the changes in 2009 to all digital cable, you can now get free basic cable). Cooking gas is not the same as heating gas. Some houses use heating oil ( the price of oil in the Noth East like in New England is about $5 a gallon that's $500 for 100 gallons which will last about 15 days if you live in a place Massachusetts or Maine) Cooking gas is always gas not oil. It's better if hot water, cooking and heating all come from natural gas because it is cleaner and a lot cheaper. Make sure it comes with off the street parking so you don't have to park on the street. In some areas you get tickets at night by police if they find your car parked on the street between 1 and 5 am. In some residential places you don't get ticketed in the summer but you do in the winter when city trucks remove the snow. Ask the owner all the question in the world because you have the right to a good and safe place for cheap. If you don't like something about the place, don't take it. Go to www.craigslist.com and select your state and then click on Apts/housing right under HOUSING that will give you a list of cheap appartments in your area and neirborhood. There are tons of new listings everyday. Good luck. Keep looking until you find the place that feels like home.

You'll need a verifiable source of steady income and a decent credit rating,.

A wedding ring.
Or, if he won't give you that, then you need your own place.

As for finding a landlord, you need to show him a paycheck stub (that proves you have a job and that you're not making your money selling crack), and be able to write a check for two month's rent. (Most don't ask for that much, but you will need furniture)
