Dr. Spooky
What do you think about the Realtors and Mortgage brokers?
who are trying to sneak their advertising in here?? Isn't that breaking the rules, guys and gals????

I think that they should not be advertising their websites on this venue. This is in violation of the soliciting....just my humble opinion... Ummm... Georgio above wasn't understanding and,no, I don't go to this cheesy site for good advice. This is not a serious platform looking for serious answers. No wonder people don't respect REALTORS. They will do anything, go anywhere to get ANY business. Not very admirable....

Dr SPOOKY!!!!!! Dude, how are ya??? What in the WORLD are you doin here??? You usually hang out in less serious depts., like P/S, Food, and well, you know where you go. I had to find out what you were up to over in this neck of the woods. I have little interest here, but here is my 2 cents:
Most of these answers are pretty lame......they are breaking the rules by giving their contact info. Why can't ppl just follow the rules??? Also, the fact that one person said that advice without a source is lame, because the bottom line is : this is a forum for play, not business and resorting to this place for serious needs is pretty darn LAME. sorry folks , but the doc is my friend and I'm "bein real" with him. This place is supposed to be totally anonymous. READ THE GUIDELINES, PEOPLE AND KEEP IT REAL....Yo Whitney, you seem to get the picture here.

glenn
I think that except in rare instances someone should not give their contact information on here. I think you should use someone that is local and that a friend has used recently and is happy with the work done.

That advice goes for real estate broker, mortgage loan officer, home inspector, insurance broker and many others.

First and foremost I have to tell you all that no business come from Yahoo Answers. This site is set up where people sign in with an identity that they made up and ask vague questions to get general answers. So you can believe that any Realtor who is on here is taking time to help out someone who might be lost or even saving someone from taking advice from someone who has no idea what they are talking about. Trust me I have read some of the responses to some of the questions and they were completely wrong. So we take the time to give you a professional opinion about whatever question you might have. No obligation.

Beyond that we keep popping on here and reading everybody talk bad about the Realtor when in essence they know nothing about it. They are on here saying what they heard from a friend that told a friend that told a friend that told a friend.

Our training tells us to "always ask." The same as a Police officers training tells them to pay attention to small details as they walk into a room. If you had a career where you had limit less income then you would do the same thing.

It's not sneaking in advertising. If I answer a question don't you want to know who you are speaking with? if you don't know what I do or my qualifications how can you determine if my advice is sound? And this is life, anyone that is a REALTOR or broker here that says they "just answer questions" is not being honest. Deep down all of us would like to get a client, but it's not the main goal. Just keeping it real. The goal here is to help those asking questions, if my services actually solve their problem, then I see nothing wrong with offering them.

Edit;
Joe, below me, obviously does not understand "wholesale" lending. That's like saying that you can go straight to GM and get a car cheaper than going to the dealer. Wrong! the dealer gets it for less than you can. Everyday, all day. When you move items in volume you get it for less. You walk into WAMU you get offered maybe a handfull of options at their RETAIL rate. You walk into a brokers office you get offered WAMU, choices, blus a hundred others at their WHOLESALE price. You may end up paying the same amount after the broker gets paid, but you don't have to do it yourself, you get a bunch of options, your credit gets run once and you know it's done right. Simple as that.

And that's ridiculous saying that brokers deal with people banks don't want ... brokers do not fund the loans, so how would a broker get them a loan?

ZP
While of course there are always exceptions to the rule!

I believe Realtors to be akin to car salesman, new or used...

As for Mortgage brokers, hmmm; the word minion comes to mind~

There is something to be said about one who posts their credentials.
Advise is worthless chatter without it.
It may be worthless chatter with it, but at least the asker gets to make that determination based on substance.

Spamming your info without answering a question should be stopped but I think even big corporate Yahoo understands how answers 'rules' will eventually render it a superfluous site used only by kids seeking advice on employment options for 13 year olds.

In case no one has noticed Answers is moving toward the 'answers by sponsored advertisers complete with direct links" anyway. Currently in beta.........they really can't stop it so they will attempt to make $$ off it. Logical.

Too often people use the internet in place of legitimate sources of information or legal advice, not to say that the internet (or Yahoo answers) cannot be a legitimate source for information but it's imperative should one be serious about the quality of the advice they seek to consider the source!

I don't know why this would be a question regarding realtors..........you can't really use a realtor from Miami to help you buy a place in San Francisco, logically...Do you think Realtors are getting business from this type of forum? I think Realtors are more limited in their locale...
This is really aimed at Mortgage Brokers.

While I have been accused of breaking the rules, I try to make it a point to provide a link within my site that addresses the issue at hand in more detail. Nobody is obligated to click nor are my postings just a blatant commercial. I give answers where I have knowledge and I don't answer (or stick my contact info with a quick "i can help you!" where I don't have the knowledge.

There is something to be said about credentials and credibility. Answers would never last if all askers could rely on were answers in anonymity....how do you assign reliability....those that use spell check?

As far as the only way to find a mortgage person is a local from a referral from a friend, certainly the traditional method and of course you at least learn one thing about that person.....they made a friend happy but plenty of people get screwed by locals too........it's not full proof and lets face it....its the computer age. Rarely do people walk into a mortgage company, plop their purse up on the counter and say "I'd like to apply for a home loan". And less and less are wanting to clean up the house after work so the mortgage guy can come over. Smart people want information from a trustworthy source. They head to the internet trying to educate themselves so they can recognize those confusing 'buzz' words and look like they know something hoping to avoid the fast talking loan salesperson.

Computers, email, fax, websites etc have made things much more convenient. This reality requires a new way of finding a trusted professional. I really like in answers where you can read the history of ones answers. You'll learn more about a person reading their answers than you will walking into their office for 45 minutes to talk rates.
In this day and age people really need to expect more from financing professionals and that includes the local office guy.

They should be educating their clients and be an 'Open Book'. Show me a person with a positive credit history, personal buying, investing experience and willing to share their personal credit report with their clients and I'll show you someone who's advice is worth at least listening to.

It does not matter how many years one has in the business. If they can't make positive financial decisions for themselves, their advice is worthless to me.

Do Askers really want advice without credentials?
If so then change Yahoo Answers to Yahoo Opinion Poll.

If banks could always beat Mortgage Brokers..........there wouldn't be any Mortgage Brokers. I encourage my clients to hit the bank first...... it's makes my job so much easier when they call me back.

I worked for a bank and could undercut any broker any day of the week, plus my fees were half. Brokers are good for the people that banks dont want with bad credit.

sunshine
Nope, I'm an agent, I don't try to advertise, I just try to give decent answers. Depends on what you need them for. Mtg. Brokers cost more to use, but can get you better rates, and a better mtg. payment. In the long run they are the better investment.
