What does this mean?
What does it mean when looking at a house to buy and it says on the listing single family house attached ? And what does it mean if it says the same thing but detached?

attached housing

dwelling units that are attached to each other on at least one side, possibly divided from one another by firewalls or other physical partitions. Contrast with detached housing .

Example: A townhouse is a form of attached housing . A duplex is attached housing. A ranch house is a form of detached housing .

It probably means the house shares a wall with another house. Row houses and villas are like this. They're totally separate homes, with their own systems, owned by different people, but the center wall is shared by both homes. They're common in some parts of the country, but rare in others. Detached means there's no other house attached to it.

Unless they're talking about garages. An attached garage is under the same roof as the house, or otherwise connected to the house. A detached garage isn't.

RICHARD
That has to do with the Garage.
If it is part of the House, it is ATTACHED
if you have to walk outside to get to it then it is DETACHED

it means its a family house and it is attached onto another property

it means it is a family house and it isn't attached to another property.

I'm assuming this is in ADDITION to the listing you are looking at, meaning there is literally a single family home attached to the other home. Door connecting both? Detached would mean there is another single family home on the same property but is not attached to the other home. Hope I was some help!

Attached means it's like a duplex or a townhouse. A single family can live in the dwelling and there is a single family home attached to it as well.

Detached means it's just a regular house. Not a duplex or townhouse. Meant for one family to live in.

skinsfan23666
attached means its a duplex, 2 single family homes attached together. Detached means a single family home not attached to another, you would have a yard all the way around. Personally I don't like attached but they are probably less expensive.

Duplex?
Does it say its in reference to a garage?

ter
Detached house is not touching another house. Attached house would touch 2 houses one at both sides, it would be in the middle of three. Semi Detached house would touch one house and would either be at the start or end of a row of houses.

the same dam thing!

Attached means that your house is literally attached to someone else's, like a townhome or a duplex. Detached means that there is space between your house and the next house.
