What happens if you dont pay Rent-A-Center?
I HEARD IF YOU DONT PAY RENT-A-CENTER, AFTER 90 DAYS THEY WRITE IT OFF???? IS THAT TRUE?

Most large companies send you to collections if you don't pay after 90 days.. I think you misunderstood.. they write it off meaning they sell your account to a collection agent, then it's classified under bad debt in the general ledger after the account is sold.. when the collector collects from the account, it is then reclassified into the current month it is collected in. It works the same with rental companies like Rent-a-Center, but they also come and repossess the items AND still send you to collections for the past due amounts. Best Wishes!

I believe it first depends on how much of their stuff you have. However, you will likely be visited by a repo-person who will come to collect the items you are renting to own or leasing. They will also likely obtain a summary judgment against you. This will prohibit you from being able to buy a house, car or take out loans in the future until the debt is settled. There is a statutory limitation on how long a summary judgment can affect your credit (I don't recall off hand how long), it may be 10yrs...but the creditor can continue to renew and refile that judgment against you before it expires.

Here is something important to understand...and this goes for everyone. Make sure you KNOW YOUR RIGHTS when it comes to the Fair Debt Collections Act. Read it, know it and understand it. It not only can help you avoid being collected on, but it also can be a source of income if the collecting company violates any one of the rules of collection.

If the company you contracted sells your debt to a collection company. Make sure you read your contract and that the contract states that they can assign the debt. If it is assigned, request the collection company to present you with (1) the assignment of the debt, (2) the license to be able to collect debt in your state. Many times collection companies do not follow the rules and not only put themselves as risk, but also the assignor of the debt.

Just some words of wisdom there...take it for what it is.

Yeah, right. That's how they make their money! They come out and take their stuff back.

Umm no they don't write it off... they send the repo man to your house to collect THEIR furniture! I'd suggest paying or returning the furniture since they'll get it back anyway.

No company is just going to write it off. You pay or they come take their stuff back.

They won't wait 90 days -- they'll come get the stuff you're renting.

I had rented some furniture, and while I was away my room mate sold it. I have spoken to the place and they said if I dont pay, that they will charge me with theft. Is that possible in B.C?
