Move to somewhere remote where the properties are cheaper and buy a home that's sold "as is".
Or get really creative and turn an old barn into a house. I knew a family that did that and it came out pretty awesome. |

I think you should check out 'Housing Auctions' where they sell houses in the same format as an auction (as in to the highest bidder).
I think you could buy a nice cheap place and then you'll be left to renovate it yourself.
I'm sure you could then sell it off for a higher price than you paid and if you're good enough you'll earn a profit.
