What is the best way to tell your landlord you are leaving?
I LOVE my landlord but due to circumstances beyond my control, I have to move in with a friend.
I kind of told them when I moved in that I would stay until at least August but that can not happen now.
Help!

Look over your lease agreement. That will tell you if you need to provide any notice, if that notice has to be written, and how far in advance the notice has to be to avoid additional fees, including paying the lease off, or another month of rent, ect.

Write a note stating your move out date (which should be 30 days from now). It sounds like you will need to leave sooner, so ask them if that is okay.

A 30 day notice is standard

You can't just up a leave. The right way and the only way is a 30 days written notice. Otherwise, he can charge you depending on what type of lease you are on.

If you really like your landlord, chances are they won't mind as long as you explain the circumstances. One good way to get out of it would be to help them find a new tennant, possibly a friend you can refer or vouch for. Let them know the circumstances, help them out with looking for / placing ads for new tennants, and if none of that works, just move on and live your life...sometimes things just work out that way.

You love your landlord? You must be the only person in the whole country who loves their landlord. If the love is mutual I'm sure he will understand.

The best way to tell a landlord you are leaving is......."Here is my last rent payment, I have succesfully completed my lease and will no longer be living here. Thanks for being such a good landlord! I am proud to have responsibly upheld my end of the agreement as we discussed"
