What is the cheapest state to live in?
Other than the states that nobody likes such as South Dakota, what is the cheapest state to live in when it comes to buying a house and land. I was thinking Texas, but I'm not sure.

The top 5 states with the lowest over all cost of living in the first quarter of 2008 are OK, TN, NE, TX and MO. When it comes to simply buying a house and land take Nebraska off the list and put South Dakota on the back end.

Look into Montana....no taxes there

HEY!!just bcuz wereTexans doesnt mean were cheap!! (yes,im offended) lol

K33ping it Real
Texas=Low tax, lots of room, cheap land

My house has 3 bedrooms 3 living rooms, sun room etc. big big and only 145K.

If you live outside a major city then the taxes are INSANELY LOW!

No offense but liberal states tax way to high. You HAVE TO go to a conservative state to save the most money.

Everybody is buying houses here,
I heard Shaq recently bought a house here and he doesnt even play ball here. Andy Petitte for the NY Yankees still owns his house here. Roger clemens still lives here even when he played for the yankees.

Don't forget about George Bush, I've been by his ranch and its massive. LOL
Chuck Norris lives on a ranch here. (my dads friend saw him buying groceries)
TX! is where its at

I dont have an specific answer, but before you start looking for a state you should research the employment rate there.

South Dakota is one of the cheapest states in the US to live in. We have very low taxes here and we are the ONLY state that does not have a state income tax. That greatly adds up when with your paycheck! Housing markets are also lower priced here. Great people and a great state to live in!

thumpfrosty
florida as long as you dont live on the water or south fl.

Not Texas! House prices cheap, but property taxes are very, very high (San Antonio: 3% of full valuation of house each year) and utilities are very high because of the extreme heat.

Look at Georgia, Atlanta area. Reasonable house prices, low property taxes, reasonable utilities. At age 62, in Cobb County, all school tax part of property tax is eliminated: great benefit for retirees. Also $30,000 of pension income is excluded from state income tax.

Ohio is pretty reasonable, but beware of the following:

Toledo is very affordable and (contrary to popular myth) crime is actually pretty low, but jobs can be a problem unless you work for the University of Toledo, the zoo, or know how to bartend.

Columbus has lots of jobs, but high rent, high crime, and rude people (It's the Paris of Ohio - literally - there is a replica of the Arc d'Triumph just west of Nationwide Arena).

Dayton is fairly affordable, but has the highest proportionate crime rate in the state (especially property crime and murder)

Lima is reasonably cheap (you can BUY houses for $40k there!) and surprisingly low crime for a city of its size (about 30,000), as well as lots of public amenities, really good shopping, and good jobs (Army tank plant, Marathon refinery, etc.) but of course there are two catches: (1) you'll probably get fat unless you're a vegetarian, because once you've had a Kewpee hamburger (they are only available in Lima), the addiction is worse than drugs; and (2) The smell from the refinery is actually pretty annoying if you are on the south side of town.

Marion is affordable, but you'll need a map, pick-ax and a compass to navigate the streets. The street system is one of the most confusing and poorly planned in the state.

Youngstown is a death trap. Don't move there unless you have a will made out.

Avoid Akron if you have allergies. You will never be able to breathe right, because of all the tire factories, and the fact that the air there is like smoking two packs a day.

Avoid Canton because it is too close to Akron.

Avoid Sandusky. It is expensive, and the traffic jams caused by Cedar Point traffic during the summer are bad enough to make a preacher cuss.

Arkansas, it's the cheapest place to live. Keep in mind that the job market isn't as strong as it could be, which factors into the equation. If you are independently wealthy or work in an industry that pays well in Arkansas, that's the place to go.

I live in Wyoming and I find it to be fairly cheap, depending on what part you are in. To the person above who said South Dakota is the only state without a state income tax, YOU ARE WRONG, we don't have state tax here in Wyoming either.

Well i beleive that if you really wanted to save alot of money then you s hould try and go to Africa, with all the povo children that have no food or water, and you'll just die of salavation, and at least you'll get AIDS
But just think if you have $3 you'll be the richest person there.
Happy living.
