What is the difference between a hotel and a motel?

I don't know if this is true or not, but this is how I see it. In a motel the rooms are on the outside. In a hotel, the rooms are all inside. Does that make sense?

A motel is a motel becuse of the number of rooms it has. Hotels have many more rooms. I don't know the differenece of rooms a motel has and a hotel has. For example if a motel can have a moximum of 30 rooms, if it has any more than 30 rooms than it is hotel. I'm not sure if there is a law about it or enforcing it but I've read a lot about it.
Also there is the price difference and the services you receive. In hotels it's becomes a standard thing to have breakfast brought to your room of you order it and and you get room service evryday at 11.30.

If the building looks like it is standing up it is a hotel, if it looks like it is laying down it is a motel.

Hotels are bigger, have more rooms, and are much more expensive. Most motels are not cheap, they are smaller, and they have less rooms. Hotels usually serve a nice and hot breakfast. Motels serve Continental breakfast. That is the difference between an motel and hotel.

MOTEL: An establishment that provides lodging for motorists in rooms usually having direct access to an open parking area. Also called motor court, motor lodge.

motels usually don't serve food. generally, hotels are bigger, and better coz they have more amenities.
