What mean " no dss " when you look at advert for flat to rent.?

8 Track Mind
no Deutchland SS

Dept for Social Security, ie on Job Seekers Allowance or Income Support. These people get their rent paid by Housing Benefit at the Local Council. As Housing Benefit is slow to pay out due to the claims process many Landlords have several weeks to wait to get their money, so do not like Housing benefit claimants.

Richard M
Basically they would not take you if you are on benefits (DSS - Department Social Security). There are some people that will take DSS, try Gumtree via the website.

Hope this helps

They dont want people who dont work

Tracey
dss stands for department of social services which means if you are claiming benefits and trying to pay the rent like you are entitled to while you are claiming through the benefits agency you will not get the flat

It means they don't accept people on housing benefit.

It means they won't accept a tenant who gets his rent paid for him by the Dept of Social Security

However as of next April Housing Benefit will be replaced to another benefit for private tenants which will be paid to the tenant, not the landlord, therefore there will be no way for the LL to discriminate anymore.

Anne K T
No unemployed i.e. no paying rent by Housing benefit only working people may apply.

dixidan_2000
If you are signing on you can't apply.

DSS means Department of Social Security. When the advert says "no dss" it means that anyone funded by Social Security need not apply. Unfortunately some of the DSS tenants have left property in a mess and Landlords are wary of it happening again, apart from the obvious problems the cost of repairing property to make it habitable again is prohibitive.

Think it means they don't want anyone who's being supported by social security money - DSS is the Department of Social Security

It means I have a right to be prejudiced and get away with it by law, and look down on anyone that is not in a high powered job, and needing no financial assistance by the state. I also believe anyone claiming such monies to all be scum and therefore highly likely to refuse to pay the rent each month.

But this is shortened to no DSS (Department of Social Security)

Of course in reality, most people on DSS are families and therefore highly unlikely to mess with rent as they usually wnat a stable home for their kids for a number of years. They also tend to keep them in a good and tidy order as they do not want their kids to pick up diseases. IMO these would be the tenants I would actually seek to have in my property.

pleasure6910462
This means that you cannot be receiving benefits from the Department of Social Services (Welfare).

Pebble da rebble
no one claiming social security

stacey w
if you are claming benifits you can not rent as they dont accept housing benifit.
hope this helps :)

Department of social security - they want you to pay your rent direct and not via the social - who will check the property to make sure the rent is fair

muppet
it means that they are not interested in someone who is claiming benefits and the dss pay the rent for them.

It means the landlord doesnt want the government/benefits paying your rent, they want you to.

It means they dont want anyone as a tenant who is claiming social security - working members of the community only.

nobody on benefits. the DWP (dept of work and pensions) used to be called the DHSS (dept of health and social security), then just the DSS. lots of private landlords are unwilling to take people with no job as they are worried the rent will not be paid. if i was a landlord, i would prefer DSS tenants as the rent is paid directly from the Housing Benefit section of the council into the landlords bank account. it is not given to the tenant.

fivetoze
no doleys... but its an infringement of your rights.... they pay your bills, so whats the problem...

it means no people who are not working..........in other words they are being discriminative, just coz your not working doesnt mean you wont look after the house

NO 'Department of Social Security' payments i.e the council can't pay your rent for you if you live there.

Actually, it means they won't rent to a person who has housing benefits fromt the Department of Social Services (DSS)
