67% to be precise and all through my own choice - I over pay to great extent, simply because I want this debt gone by the age of 38-39 and then I can spend the money on any future kids, holidays, the Mrs....... anything I want to really!!! |

Normally, depends on the amount of the mortgage and the monthly instalments you have to pay. If the latter is 1000 pounds your income should be 3000 pounds or 1/3 of your monthly income. However, exceptions can be considered if you have other source of income or if you can support your request with a guarantee. |

Because my income varries month to month I'd estimate 18 to 25%. That estimate also includes my water, trash, electric and gas too. |

O we bought our house outright 5/6 years ago after paying what we thought was a huge mortgage for years but its nothing in comparison to what others pay now due to the increase in housing. |

If you are looking to apply for a Mortgage then the Debt to Income ratio for
* Conventional loans typically it is 28/36.
* FHA loans typically it is 31/43.
* VA loans typically it is one DTI of 41. (This is effectively equal to 41/41, although VA does not use that notation.)
For example the 28%(front ratio) in Conventional loan means that not more than 28% of your monthly income should go towards mortgage payments. The 36% (back ratio) means that your total monthly debt(including mortgage payments and other expenses) should not exceed 36% |

Should be no more than 35% - including PITI (Payments, Interest, Taxes, and Insurance). This is one of the points that mortgage lenders look for. |

The rule of thumb is you shouldnt spend more than 28% of your annual income. So if you make $60,000 a year, your payments including principal, interest, insurance shouldn't be more than 1860 |
