What should I look for when buying a condo?

Look at the resale value. I'm sure you will want to upgrade and resell it for a larger purchase. A one-bedroom condo will be less appealing when you go to sell it then a two-bedroom. Also look at the CC fees/association fees and what they include. Some include the utilities...while some others do not. Look at the surrounding area as well...is the neighborhood still developing? Basically you want to make sure the condo has what you want right now and later on down the road when you are ready to sell.

remember living in a condo is alot like living in an apartment...noisy neighbors, screaming kids, parties, people park in your spot...lots of headaches....so look for these things.
the best way to check out a place...is to visit it several times throughout the week at different times of the day, so you get a feel for the neighborhood (evening, day, afternoon etc)

also - is this going to be a NEW, used or foreclosed condo. you will want to have inspections done to make sure that there is nothing wrong with the condo that you will have to pay for.
if it is brand new, prior to closing you will submit a list of items that need to be completed (paint touch up, blinds, etc)

if this is a foreclosed property do a background check to make sure there are no back taxes or liens that you are responsible for.

i think this will do it. good luck :)

Honestly when buying a condo the neighborhood should be the first thing you look at. If its in a bad area then expect some break ins or even worse.

Next you should look into how old the place is because if the condo is too old then it could be falling apart and if its too new then the troubles may be just around the corner and havent been discovered yet.

Also check to find out if there could be any natural problems such as flooding around the area or something like that or even something subsurface such as sinkholes which could end up costing you and the rest of the tenants a lot in the end.

Price is always important and just make sure that they arent robbing you blind and that it's a fair price for the area.

Ideally you should look for up to date appliances and fixtures and a layout that you can work with

And if the condo is just a converted apartment complex then odds are you could find some sort of review online to use as reference.

Look at the condominium documents first and see if you can live with them. If you can't, nothing else matters.

depends on what your needs are. For us we made sure to find one with a basement, because we decided that would end up being more space than looking for one with a third bedroom, since we needed it for my office, and also for all the music equipment we have accumulated over the years. We also looked for that was on the ground floor (ended up with a town house) so that when we got a dog it would be easier to let him out. two bathrooms for us was a must,a dn we also looked to make sure that the price was good versus the square footage, and that everything seemed to be in good shape when we looked at it. we also drove through the neighborhood at variouse times through out the week to see what type of neighborhood it was, and it has turned out to be a low traffice very quiet family oriented neighborhood, we couldn't be happier.
