What type of home can you buy in your area for $100,000?
i mean like where i live a 100,000 house would be considered very nice;3-4bedrooms, 2 baths, nice yard...

Southern California: None. Cheapest dirtbag scum 1 bedroom condos start at $400,000.

3-4 bedroom, 2 bath, yard here would be 1 million and up.

I think that would be similar to where I live, although the price here for that home is a bit higher.

I find it fascinating to learn real estate values elsewhere. In some areas, a hundred grand probably wouldn't buy you condemned property!

You can't buy any real estate in my area for $100,000. For $150,000 you MIGHT be able to by a 20 year old, heavily used mobile home - if you can find one.

The same 3-4 bedroom place you mentioned would run you at least $750,000 in my area (Northern Virginia). It's really a serious bummer for young professionals like me who can't even afford to rent their own place.

greeneyes634970
not much of one where i live ,the house i rent is worth250,00.im only renting as im only going to be here 3yrs.the other reason why i would not buy here is that the houses are too close together and not much of a yard and for that amount i want it spaced out.

Economics Guy
I live in the south western suburbs of chicago. Homes with 3 bed 3 bath at least 2 car garage and 3/4ths to one acer of land is in the 480s. Maybe down further south over in joliet where the movie blues brother was made could you get a small piece of crap, in a crap area, with no land, for 100k.

DMASTER
You may be able to buy a garage with out a yard.

merrigandesign
Hwere I live a three bedroom house is going for 500,000 so a 100,000 house would be a HUD dump

webjnke1
same here ... it'd be nice but not new

bbq
i think you can get a car for that amount here in the bay area (CA)

It might get a 2 bedroom, 1 bath in Tennessee

This is in the Denver CO market: small house, small lot, maybe 2 bedroom one bathroom, one car garage, in not the best neighborhood. I would say an average 3/2 double garage in Denver is 250-300.

Dumpster home in a bad neighborhood. 4 bedrooms, 2 baths and nice yard would be $400,000 cheapest

in my area....a shed. Seriously. I'm in the Philly suburbs. That would be Philadelphia for those who don't know what "Philly" means.

For something that you describe in your questions..that'd run you about $250,000 average for a 50 yr old ranch type of house, 3 BR, 2 bath.

If you wanted to live in a crime infested cracktown you could have a really big house with a decent yard, but keep in mind the crime rates and neighbors would prevent you from enjoying your property ownership.

orlandotreasurechest
Not very much!!! But, I think one's best bet for a good deal would be to go to their local courthouse and purcahse a foreclosure list, which will almost always have a better deal than a realtor.

devildude66654
That would give you a cramped apartment here. A house like that in Northern Virginia (20 miles from D.C if u wanted to work for the gov.) would be about $715,000

Nothing....
Maybe a crack shack somewhere but honestly I've never see a listing that low.

Around here you have to start at 200k for a condo
and those are junk too.

I live in the Richmond, VA area and here you can't get much for 100K. Maybe a really small (less than 1000 sq. feet) run down, really old house in the middle of nowhere.

Before Richmond, I lived in Northern VA area (DC metro) and you can't get anything for 100K now. For years ago, I bought a big townhome for 125K (3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, 2 half baths 2000 sq feet) for $125K. I sold it a year ago for $250. So nowadays, if you can only afford a 100K house, you best rent because you won't be able to find anything.

Kiss my Putt!
probably about the same here, but you always have to consider you can get a bigger/nicer home for less in a not-so-optimum neighborhod, than you can in a swanky closed gated community or the such...also you have to figure in school districts, etc. Like anything else, varies place to place; circumstances to circumstances.

chris4realestate
I live in NW Indiana and you can buy maybe a small condo for that price, or an old house. Well-kept, but old. There's a whole area just north of me that has houses in good shape, but usually about 35-50 years old and under or right around $100,000.

ndeoram
$100,000 can't buy much here. A decent house in L.A./O.C. would run between 450-700k

monkey_of_john
you could buy a mansion i think

If you click on that link, you will view about 10 current listings in the Jonesboro,AR market.

As you can see, the new construction houses are in the outskirts of Jonesboro, while the listings actually in the city are older homes.

Hope this helps!
