What would happen if you stop making payments on your house?
....would the bank try to get the money from your checking account or try to take your car...?
Additional Details
Actually, I have the money to continue paying for my house, thank God for that. I'm just asking because I've heard many stories about people who have just walked away from their homes,
and I was just wondering. I would never do that. I'm lucky to be in a well paying profession, i'm a pharmacist, and would probably never have to worry about that.

No...they would foreclose on you and you would end up living in the street.

No, the house is the collateral for the loan. They will take your house if you stop paying.

suzanne
No, the bank takes your house AND the profit they get for selling it. You end up having to find somewhere else to live and still owing a debt for the house (minus whatever the bank got for it).

forclosure and a bad credit score

they would foreclose on the house and then sell it to get their money back. Your credit would be ruined and you wouldn't get any money back from your investment.

They will forclose on you.....you will likely have about three months of paperwork sent to you and the house, and then one day the sheriff will come and make you get out.

Mean Mr. Clean
They won't waste the time with the car...they actually own the house till the payments are complete...so, they'll take it away.

Can you say shopping cart and carboard box?

the bank takes it

they will kick you out sell the house take their money . and you wont be able to get a house for couple of years

PeopleFud
Nothing would happen for a few months. Then the bank would foreclose on your home. That means they have the right to sell it for any price they want and you cannot do anything about it except buy it back from them. At this point there will be additional fees (Legal and Administration) of thousands of dollars. In addition, your credit would be affected and it would be difficult for you to get any credit for quite a while, and if you did, it would probably cost more than if you would just pay your mortgage. If you have enough to keep paying, but know you won't be able to for long, call a real estate agent immediately, get your house up for sale, keep paying the mortgage. Sell the house for as little as possible to get a fast sale and get away without any cost from you. If you can sell it before you get to the point where you cannot pay the mortgage, you will save yourself a lot of grief later on.

bye bye house..hello card board box!!
Take your car? why would they take ur car? they would take the house, come on now,wtf are you thinking?

Benita
They would foreclose on you (as everyone else has stated). The foreclosure process is not a pretty one. You will be served with papers and asked to leave by a certain date. If you don't leave by that date then the police will come and you will have to leave your things and you will be forced out of the home if you don't leave quietly. It's not a good thing.

DAAAA.... THE BANK WOULD TAKE YOUR HOUSE!!! THAT'S HOW THEY WOULD GET THEIR MONEY!

GO TO HELL
They don't care about your checkbook or your car. Their only interest is your house. If you don't pay, they will forclose. That means you're moving, so it's a good thing they don't care about your car...you can always sleep there.

MFGz
then u live in a ********* cartboard box..DUH

They will first go through the foreclosure process and then they would auction off the house. If they get more than what you owe from the auction then they would give that back to you minus the court costs and any other fees. If there's still a balance that you owe after the auction then you owe that and they can seize any assets that you have including back accounts and any property you own including your car. I'm sorry if your losing your house. I hope it all works out for you.
