What would you do, relocate, or stay put?
I reside in a place I do not like. Long winters, depression, etc. I need to live where it is sunny and warm. Last year purchased a new home in sunny place. Tried to sell existing home, did not sell. Now I am thinking to just stay put for 3-4 years as my job where I live now provides $12,000 in monthly income. If I relocate, my income would rop to about $3,000 monthly. However, my home cars, etc would all be paid for in full.

So, would you relocate where you would be happy for 1/4 the income, or stay put and make big money? If I relocate, the home in my dream place is paid off and my ills would be minimal, BUT, I would not be able to continue saving like I can now.

Also, the home in my dream location would need to be rented for 3-4 years, which can create problems too.

What would you do?

I'd leave. In fact, I did. I lived in oppressively hot AZ for 23 years with a dream of getting out and moving to Colorado. My husband and I finally did it. We are making just over half as much money as we did in AZ, but aside form that I am happier than I've ever been. For the first time in my life I am experiencing seasons and the most beautiful scenery right outside my front door. I wouldn't change a thing.

Stay here until your house sells, then move to dream location.

If you're miserable go.

If you're talking about just the money bit of it. Add up the bills you'll be loosing by moving, and factor that into your decision as well.

What do you do to make 12,000 a month?
I would relocate, money isn't everything.

I always go for happiness. What good is the money if you can't stand your situataion?

Alicia
stay put.

relocating would cost a lot of money, and most likely when you move there, you're going to regret losing those money.

Relocate to Austin, TX.

Omg! I'm in a similar boat! I decided to stay put for a couple of years. Once two years are up, if I'm still in New Hampshire, I'm seriously going to be mad at myself.

Dude I wanna know what u do for a $12,000 a month income! Life is too short to be unhappy with your life. I would be gone in a heart beat! If you have the means to do it, then do it! You don't want to sit around there and get stuck there and talk about all your what ifs! Do it! Be happy!

Marcial W
I would relocate. Live happy.
Even if the income is going to be less, all what you are going to spend is going to be less as well. It is proportional!

So, if money is proportional, then why not to make a very good investment in "happyness"

Gray
I would stay for about 1-2 years then move.

~girlfriday~
For that much money per month, I'd stay put and get my home, cars, etc. paid off. Then move when you can afford to live on the smaller income. Good luck!

Beach Girl
I think you said it all in your first sentence..."I need" to live where it is sunny and warm.

I lived in Vermont for 20 years, had a great job and a five bedroom house in the mountains. Four years ago, as winter set in AGAIN, I felt the same way you did. I gave my notice at work, gave the house to my ex, and moved to the beach. I got a great job in real estate here and haven't regretted moving one bit. I lived on 1/4 of what I was making in for the first two years and I still loved it. The beach was FREE, the library had all the books I needed, and I never wear a coat, not EVER. I would say, move. If you don't take some risks in life, you never know...how happy you could be! It's so worth it!

EatmuhCrap
You live in Binghamton NY don't you? : ) Well that's where I relocated from and it was exactly as you described. I would highly recommend moving!

~Crystal~
Well I would first consider the costs of living. Is where you plan to live a cheaper place? If so then it is definitely a good idea to go ahead and move. I myself would choose happiness over money any day!!!

Live for today...you don't know where you will be tomorrow - if you are unhappy no money in the world is worth it - go for personal happiness.....money is nothing without happiness...make your dream a reality!

Trade places with me. I miss seasons!!

Seriously though. You should make sure the move is comfortable. If you up and leave and end up scraping by it can be just as miserable as where you are now.

I'd stay put for a few years and save some money. My hubby has had offers to relocate cross country for jobs that pay more then what he makes here but we chose to stay because in the long run it was cheaper. The housing is A LOT more then is here and things are very spared out and LOTS of traffic which means A LOT of money in gas where as here we spend 200 a month in gas for our two cars. When we sat down and crunched the numbers even though we make less here we save more than if we were to move and get a bigger pay check. In the end the choice is yours but it doesn't hurt to save a few more years!
