Barkditch | Whats the deal here? |
I got a phonecall this evening from a telemarketer who told me that I had been selected to "win" $1000 worth of resort checks that are valid in several different parts of the world, if I go to a 90 minute seminar about timeshare apartments, with no obligation to purchase anything. I understand that ideally they want me to invest in the timeshare, which I have no intention of doing. But what I would like to know is, scam or not? Has anyone actually received the "prize" without getting financially involved? |

it is a scam
but go ahead if you have the time..
don't forget to read the fine print..in the certificates (nothing is free there will be a processing fee and of course nothing will be available for the days you want to go) |

Actually it is not a scam. Well completely. For sitting through time share presentations, agreed gifts are given to you. In Mexico, while vacationing we sat through one to get a Jeep for two days while we were there. It was worth it. In Las Vegas we got two nights accomadations at a very nice resort. Your $1000 resort checks will be given to you. There may be a catch like you may only be able to use them at there resorts. |

Generally it's not a scam, that's how time shares get people interested in their property. They offer some "free weekend" at a hotel or something and make you sit through one or more seminars to receive vouchers.
Often it's not quite what you think you'll get as far as quality of the "free" goods, so for most people it's not worth it. For some it is. |

Don't bother with it. You will discover that the $1000 worth of resort checks (or whatever) are not in desirable locations, and most probably for the least desirable time slots available.
It's not worth listening to 90 minutes of high pressure sales blabber, followed by MORE individual high pressure to get you to sign on the dotted line. |

It is a scam, if the marketing call came from a reputable place and they offered you a discounted stay at a resort that you could actually verify that would be different.
I did stay at the Hilton Resort in Vegas for a really low price in accepting to attend a 90 minutes sales pitch.
I survived the pitch without buying anything and then moved on with my stay in Vegas. |

I remember when I was a kid we talked my parents into going to one of those because all the prizes looked so cool. How could we go wrong.
Well, my parents did come home with the 'boat' - a blow up plastic boat for the pool which we did not even have.
You'll get the prize but there will be something about that prize that makes it unusable like you only have 30 days to redeem it or you have to spend thousands getting to the resort just to use the check. |

Hi, The company has been doing this for years, don't pay for the timeshare as it's not all it seems but the vouchers are worth it for sitting through a 90 min presentation. |
