When a renter says "+ utilities" does that generally mean utilities included with rent?

no the opposite.

No. if rent is $800 PLUS utilities, it means that you pay 800 plus you pay utilities.

If it say s$800 including utilities you dont pay them.

I scream for ICE CREAM!!
no, that means you are responsible for your own utilities

rent : $1000
utilities: $200 for November

you would have to pay $1200 for the month. Usually you dont give the utility money to the renter, but you send it directly to the electrical company or whatever

DAVE B.,The Old Man
no it means just what it says,, rent PLUS .. other wise it would be with INCLUDED.

jsun
no. '+utilities' means that you will owe whatever rent is PLUS the cost of your utilities for each month. some places will vary in what utilities are included in rent so be sure to ask. some will include the the water bill, some will include gas/electric... just depends.

andyman_69
No, if they say "$650 a month +utilities", that means you have to pay the utilities. If they say "$650 a month utilities included" then they pay for the utilities. It's common sense.

The first answerers are correct. If some of the utilities were to be paid by the landlord, it generally would say "free sewage" or "free heat", something of that nature.

miss_villegas_2005
No, there no included. When it says utilites included that means that they pay them 4 u!

Angelina
no it means just the opposite - it means you pay the rent and all of the utilities

Tallulah

No, that means you pay whatever the rent amount is plus the utilities. If the utilities are included then they will say just that...."utilities included".

Naomi
Rating
that usually means that utilities are NOT included in the cost of the rent.

bigpuppax
Nope. "Utilities Included (or Incl.)" would mean they were included in the rent. This says that you will have to pay rent PLUS utilities.

mamba
Nope, you gotta pay them yourself.

saved_by_grace

That means that they are not included in the rent.

Squiddy

No it means that you pay rent and you also pay the utilites too.

AMAR B

No, it mean you will have to pay all utilities bill separately.

Thegrip
I'm sure it depends on the region, but in Chicago, "$X + utilities" usually means that utilities are not included. Incidentally, I would never rent an apartment that didn't include at least the heating bill in the rent, because that is very pricey in the winter.
