When moving out of your rent house, is it my responsbility to clean out the house for the next person?
Hi, I have been living in a house for about 4 year on rent. I moved out, but I left some of my furnitures there (not big ones small desk and things like that), after i left, the landlord has been calling me and screaming at me that house is suppose to be clean when I leave. I thought it was her responsbility to clean up for the next person, is it not?

No, it is not the landlords responsibility to clean up your belongings. You should leave the place in the condition it was in when you moved into it and definetely not leave any furniture, trash, boxes, etc behind.

The landlord can charge you for labor & disposal for getting rid of your stuff.

For courtesy, you should clean the house but you are not oblige to do it if it is not in the contract.

bighossfly
if you had to put up a deposit then you are responsible for clean up in order to get your deposit back.

Mitch D
Ya, it should be in the same condition as it was when you moved in. If not cleaning costs could and probably will be charged to you. You probably put down a security deposit, usually equal to a month of rent. They will probably keep it for cleaning costs.

riverhawthorne
I'm afraid so...and they can charge you a (often inflated) "removal fee". Most people have to pay a security deposit...and then it is taken from the deposit....but apparently this isn't a factor in your case. Sorry...I know it isn't what you wanted to hear.

IF IT WAS EMPTY WHEN YOU GOT THEIR THATS HOW YOU SHOULD LEAVE IT. LANDLORD COULD SUE YOU
DONT SET YOURSELF UP FOR FAILURE

I beleive that you should regardless. Just think how you would feel if it was in that condition when you moved in.

Yes, it is up to you to clean the house and remove all of your stuff, your landlord has the right to charge you for cleaning and removal of your furniture, you should also shampoo the carpets. Much cheaper for you to do it than the landlord hiring professional cleaners and then suing you for the money to pay for it, so unless you have money for lawyers etc go and get you stuff out of the house and clean it.

You are supposed to leave the house in the same condition it was in when you began occupancy. If that desk and other stuff was there, then it isn't your responsibility. The landlord does repair and light cleaning due to normal wear and tear but she is not responible to clean up after you leave. She will probably only return a small part of your deposit back less the costs she incurred in cleaning the house.

You don't have to "clean" the place, but you should have moved ALL your stuff out of there.

The landlord is expecting the place to be in the same condition as the day you moved in (i.e. "empty"), with normal wear and tear. She is not expecting to have to remove any leftover furniture.

Evidently, you do not want your deposit back. Because if you did you would have left the place in better condition than that. But, on the other hand to leave items in there like what you said you are nothing but poor trash. Who do you think wants your nasty junk? You didn't want it why do you think the next renter wants it? I'm sure she will charge your tacky a$$ for her having to move your nasty stuff. I hope you pay dearly!!!

Jxsxn
nope,.... well it is supposed to be in the same condition, as of when you first moved in.. so if you had some major damage
then you will be charged but if it's just dirt then leave it

happy i
In my side, its your responsible to clean' especialy you own certain things that you lefted in the house but not 100% that you take charge for that' your landlord was the one to do was is the best thing to do' to clean up and to look presentable in the next person who will rented in that apartment you lefted!

You didn't own the place. Whatever's left behind is his problem, especially if he's being a jerk about it.
