When renting a property???
Will the estate agent or landlord carry out a credit check on you?

Hawaii Home
Most will. You need to give them permission.
Many are doing criminal checks as well now.

If you have any problems it's best to tell them ahead of time. People don't like surprises and if you are upfront it will help a lot.

jackie m
They usually want references and they can do a credit check, remember when renting you need a deposit and months rent in advance and you also have to pay council tax.

Busy Lil Bee
It is nearly a requirement anytime you wish to enter into a Lease or Rental Agreement. They want to check your credit worthiness, payment history of your bills, and any prior evictions or judgments. It is very rare that a credit check is not done when renting property; that rare occassion is family or very close friend who desparately needs a renter to fill the vacancy.

mark m
Most of them they will ask you to pay the rent by a standing order from your bank to make sure that payment will go to them on time, hence you need to give your bank account and sign the necessary paper work and yes they will check.

Allison L
Yes, a lot of them do. If you fail, they might either ask for a guarantor or come to an arrangement where you pay a larger deposit as security. However, it goes without saying, that you should only do something you are comfortable with and with a reputable agent and if you do pay a larger deposit, for example, get a receipt and have it written on the lease.

It's very likely they will.

I'm a small private landlord and I always would- it is part of a very basic check.
Agents however are often totally useless and only use a reference from the last landlord (which means nothing as he wants the tenant out).
If you have a month's deposit and pay a month in advance (and are working) it shouldn't be a problem.
Good luck!

they can

CAR
no they shouldn't and they can't without asking your permission you will be signing a rental agreement with them so make sur you read it through and if there is a list of items thats meant to be in the property go through it with a fine comb as there nearly always something missing and read the gas , electric etc with them and write it on the lease
