I have the best husband ever
When selling a house, is it better to show the house empty or furnished?

Empty because it looks like it has more space and people usually want as much space as possible.

Furnished, but sparely. People want to see neutral colors, no personal items, absolutely NO clutter or trash. It helps them to visualize their own home and furnishings.

Furnished. It is easier for a prospective buyer to envision themselves living in a home if it feels like a home.

Very neutral furnishings with few if any personal touches will create a blank palette which a person can add onto and make their own in their mind.

cottonlily84
Staged is best because it showcases the features and possibilities of a home. Furnished usually isn't a good idea because potential buyers do judge a home by the tastes of the owner. It's crazy I know, but I do the same thing when I look at a home for sale. Empty is better than furnished because you can at least get the feeling of more space, but if your property doesn't have much pizazz to begin with it's going to look very bleak stark naked.

I would think furnished so they can get an idea of what it would look like with furniture, then it would be easier for them to imagine their furniture in the house.

Usually furnished. Most buyers have trouble visualizing how their furniture and accessories would fit into an empty room. That's why there is a whole industry for "staging."

tampabaylive
furnished with a pot of some really nice aromatic spices simmering on the stove... needless to say this needs to be by appointment only..Curb appeal is a big thing also...

HEATHER
Unless your furniture and accessories are fabulous or you are having it staged, I think it is better empty.

I would rather like to see it empty. Then you can see how the actually room really looks and its size.
