Call the tax assessor, not all use exact value as a basis (CA does not).

Check your local listings to find an appraiser. Having your house appraised by a professional will give you an accurate number to work off of.

Go online to realtor.com and compare your home to other homes in your neighborhood.
You can also pay for an appraisal (they basically go online to realtor.com and get printouts of what your neighbors home sold for and come up with a value from those printouts they make)
Good Luck- same thing happenening here but we have to pay for improvements to streets etc...

Many counties have websites that list the appraisals they came up with for tax purposes. What you'd need to do is get that estimate, and then find a realtor or someone who has access to information realtors can get, and then do comparables in your neighborhood to houses that have similar square footage.

Kelly White Book, just kidding. Banks and such have appraisers. For a fee you can have your house appraised.

Realtors can't appraise your home, only a licensed or Certified appraiser can. Everyone else is just making a guess, they are not trained to appraise or know how to make adjustment. Zillow could not appraise a rock and does not know it butt from a hole in the ground. Zillow cant tell if the home has had a complete remodel or a dump, or the difference between GLA and a basement (most realtors don't know the difference either). Hire a appraiser to appraise your home and you will know the true value. Fact a realtor takes 60 hours of classes and then get a license (they pass them out like candy. A appraiser must take:
Experience
Before you may take the examination, you must:

work under the supervisory appraiser to get a minimum of 2 years’ real estate appraiser experience (24 months and 2,500 hours). Hours may be treated as cumulative in order to achieve the necessary hours of appraisal experience.
Education
To be eligible to take the examination, you must successfully complete:

an associate degree or higher in any field or 21 semester hours in specific subject matter courses, including:
English composition
Principles of economics (micro or macro)
Finance
Algebra, geometry, or higher mathematics
Statistics
Introduction to computers: Word processing/spreadsheets
Business or real estate law
AND
a total of 200 classroom hours of approved real estate appraisal courses, including all of the following:
Subject Hours required
Basic appraisal principles 30 hours

Who would you want to appraise your home?

Using Zillow or any online service is a waste of electricity.

A Realtor would be able to tell you what the house would sell for but that may not be accepted as proof by your tax authority.

An appraisal might be accepted by your tax authority.

Before I spent money on an appraisal I would contact the tax authority and see how your state laws are set up. Some states require market values, some have other ideas.

Go to the courthouse. Ask about the neighborhood/ housing documents (there's a special room with that kind of information). A lot of places now have it online under the county web page. Look up your address and/or name (on the web page; in person- find the address) and there should be the paperwork you signed when you bought the home. In a database the value of your home should be updated. I hope this helps.
