The county (or parish or whatever) recorder maintains records of property sales. This will tell you the history of ownership, but nothing else. There are no records specific for the house on the property as there are for the ownership. However, you will be able to find out some information from the local tax assessor's office. They will have records of the property taxes paid going way back. House and land are are assessed as seperate items, so you will be able to determine the value of the house alone over time. Correct for inflation and you will know if it was remodeled or added to but again, the details of exactly what was done is not recorded anywhere. You may have a county planning commission. A planning commision might have records dating back to the date the development was built, if you are in a development, and maybe even the original plans that were proposed for the houses and the name of the contractor who built the houses. The building contractor also may have plans and such. Next hit the office where building permits are obtained. If your house was modified in some manner after initial construction which required a building permit, like a room addition, they will have record and also inspection results if any inspections were required. So, records are not all in one place, but you can find out several things. |

In my county, the courthouse has all of this information. Try there. |

The City Manager in your town/city has everything. For less than $20 you can obtain all kinds of records on it. I think for $50 you can have a copy of the original blue prints used to build your house.
You also may want to visit zillow.com. Type in your address and zip code. You may find some information on it there, for free. Keep in mind that not all cities have been covered yet on their site.
Good luck. |

But why is the rum always gone?
|
Your local county or municipality should have a records office for all land deeds. They can access that for you. I found that one of my wife's relatives used to own the house we bought, and we did not know that prior to closing! |

County Recorders Office will give you the information that you will need. Buttt, if you know of anyone in a Title Company than they can pull a good history of your property. Sometimes Real Estate Agents can get this information for you cheap. Good luck! |
