Peterborough is 45 mins away from King's Cross and has some delightful surrounding villages. Stamford is another town that is stunning, often used for filming period dramas.
Grantham is an hour away and is a delightful market town, all the facilities and trendy restaurants.
The surrounding villages are peaceful and very rural. |

You could try around Stevenage or Hemel Hempstead, though not 'little villagey'. I doubt very much you'll get a detached property in a lovely country village within an hour of London.
