Where do you live and how would you rate it?
I am thinking about moving......

In terms of living costs, jobs, weather, crime, housing, entertainment, etc.

1=Worst 5=Best

Here I Am
Livingston, MT A small community of around 7500 people.
Jobs in the summer are easy to come by and during the winter things slow down allot because it is considered a recreational area.
Livingston is trying to turn into the "Next Jackson Hole, Wyoming," were the cost of living is so high that the people who work there can not afford to live there.
People=5, cost of living=1

West Atlanta, very reasonable housing costs all across the board, still kind of a buyer's market with several older houses on the market for very reasonable costs compared to new construction.

The weather is great. Growing up in the north where I'm used to seasons, you get all of that. The summers are hot, but not that much more than up north and certainly better than south Florida, where I moved from.

Gas is generally less expensive here, though you do get hit with an annual car tax that's offsets any savings.

Downtown Atlanta has just about anything you could possibly ask for, including major football, baseball, hockey and basketball teams, the largest aquarium in the country, if not the world, a zoo, several museums, lots of theatres and clubs and some really good dining.

Traffic's a bear, but if you can work from home or go against it, it's not so bad. That's one major consideration when moving here.

Since I work from home, it's great. Within a 6 mile radius, I've got over 100 restaurants, 3 walmarts, 3 targets, 4 home depots, grocery stores o'plenty.

I give it a 4 of 5, with the only thing that's missing is easy access to snow skiing...

what the heck?
I live in North Florida, but it's more like south Georgia. It sucks. housing prices are high, jobs don't pay crap, and the bugs and humidity are awful. I'd leave this hellhole if I didn't love my family so much. I give it a 2. (Because it's an hour to the beach)

The place that I live in, Columbia, Maryland, was fourth on the best places to live list in all of America...so i would rate it a 5 (the study considered all the factors above)!

BuddyGuru
Forest Grove Oregon is a 5 in my book. I came from Los Angeles 35 years ago and only go back when I HAVE to for family.

People say the rain sucks, but I'm not made out of surgar so I don't melt. The temp is moderate except maybe a few weeks in the Winter and hardly ever over 100. When I read how the rest of the country was scorching a few weeks ago we were in the 70's

Cilla Jane
San Francisco, CA, I'd just give it a 4.

I live in Bowie, MD... let me throw it down for you like this. This place sucks. You don't want to be here. I don't even want to be here. I live right by D.C., so unfortunately all the losers who live in D.C. and cause problems also come to Bowie and cause problems. Right down the street is a nice little outdoor mall. Not too recently, but I remember I kept hearing about the stores frequently getting robbed. Obviously, because it's a outdoor mall.. it's quite easy to run in, run out and be on your way. Annapolis, MD is a very nice area... but quite expensive. *especially right on the water*
There is a LOT of money in this area, so you don't necessarily need to go to college to get a good paying job. From 1 to 5, I would give it a 2.5, because my brother's and my boyfriend's car were both broken into. I would recommend Colorado.

I live in Byhalia, MS. Very small town one red light & three four way stops. Not that great...schools are VERY terrible, I pay dearly every month so that my daughter can go to Private Schools. Anyways, it is very close to Memphis, TN..

I live in Kentucky, Maysville, Ky, it's a great place to live. Maysville is a quiet, down to earth kinda place, the cost of living is low and you have everything you need close by, Wal-mart, Krogers, a few clothing stores and all the extra, the pub is a great local hang out on the weekends, and everyone knows each other, and friends are not hard to find, since people here are so genuine. Schools are highly ranked and sports are a real high for the people here in Maysville Kentucky. Maysville is an hour northeast of Lexington, Ky and an hour south of Cincinnati Ohio, so we are close to the big city, but far enough away from the crimes. I mean there is very little crime, and it's a great place for children. The weather has all four seasons, fall is the prettiest time of the year here, since Kentucky is full of hills with trees, and winters are cold, but we hardly get any snow. Summers are hot, and humid, but it doesn't last very long, and spring is just right with weather in the high 60's or low 70's. You can afford to buy a house with a couple acres or more and enjoy the country. Sometimes jobs are hard to find, thats the only thing, people drive an hour to the city, but that may be the only downfall.
I rate it a 4.

Murfreesboro, TN is a great place for a job opportunity, housing costs are reasonable, no state income taxes, higher education opportunities at the university here. Friendly people, lots to do in a town that thinks it is small but exceeds 100K people. 30 minutes to Nashville. Good schools for kids, family oriented community.

Check Forbes July 24 2006 edition, Money magazine last week rating. It is one of the top 25 places to live in 2006 and for good reason. Middle TN is the #1 destination for relocating companies.

Depends on what your looking for, also what your personality is.

I have live in NYC NY, Los Angeles CA, Dallas TX, Milwaukee WI, Barcelona Spain.

If your looking for a home to afford, then buy in a small town. If your looking for a place to party and have fun Move to Los Angeles or New York.

I like the weather in Los Angeles and the night life, when I lived in New York City the have extreme cold and humid weather.

I live in New York and I certainly hope you will not consider moving here.
The living costs are among the highest of the states. The taxes will soon deplete any savings that you may have. New York has taxes for everything and anything, yet, no one seems to know where the money goes. It is a highly political state. It is who you know that gets the things done for you or gets the high paying jobs ans the raises. We have the four seasons with the winter being the longest which makes our gas and electric suppliers very happy. Our crime situation I would say is about the same as elsewhere. It's mostly the drugs that are the problem. Forget entertainment. There isn't any. Due to the insurance rates in New York being among the highest, places will not risk entertainment, other than movies.
To rate it when 1=Worst, I would have to go with that unless you had something lower. I live in what people call the "shitty city", hoping to leave soon as with everyone else.

skateboard everyday allday 24/7
i live in pawtucket rhode island i would rate it a 3 winter are cold but summer lik wonderful enertinment is prety good and sckools here are great

PVD RI
5 = Providence, RI

Expensive, but everything you could ask for. Providence is great and in RI you're always 30-40 minutes away from the beach. Homes range from 200K to over 15M. The average 3 bed/2 bath split level will run you 250-300K. Taxes are high. But hey, when you pay more for where you live you enjoy more. Why live in the middle of the country?
