Where do you think this horrible housing market is headed?
How long do you think it will be so hard to sell a home? We live on the East Coast -- thousands are houses are up for sale around here and they don't sell. What is there so much building by builders?

First off: We don't have a national housing market. We have a mathematical amalgamation of at least 1500 local markets, each one of which is different.

With that said, the situation is not as bad as it's been made out to be. My local market led the bubble, led the pop, and now we're ready for a turn around, as soon as all the buyers stop pushing and shoving and trying to get someone else to be the test penguin.

Each area has a level of prices that are supported by the economics of the area. Just because they go higher than that in a temporary fever doesn't mean they're going to stay lower than that level for very long once they drop.

If you want to buy, this is a terrific opportunity. If you don't need to sell, keep your property off the market until the market turns (it will)

And if you do need to sell, you have to outcompete the other sellers in the area to get the sale. Putting it off doesn't do you any good. Even if the market turns for the better after you've managed to hang on 6 more months, the perception by most buyers will be that there's something wrong with your property, and you'll have to take less money to get it sold.

I honestly do believe that leveling of beautiful hillsides and nature trails for land development is a doggone waste. Why build houses when you can remodel old ones?

Everything is downhill from here. Maybe they are hoping that people who are capable will buy the new houses and rent the old ones to families who aren't as well-off?

What (do you mean why?) is there so much building by builders ? Well, I guess they tried hairdressing, surgery and psychiatry, but - meeting with no success in these fields - and being builders, they thought "Hey, let's try building - it is, after all, what builders do"

Good houses always sell, but when the market is slow, the less attractive houses tend to stick

I think it will get much worse before it gets better. I think the builders are banking on people getting better loans and interest rates for new construction rather than purchasing existing homes. But you are right - they sure are building lots of new houses, and new developments are popping up everywhere.

I have a condo that I have considered selling, but I know I will get CRAP for it right now, so I've decided to wait another year or more. I think things will turn around over the next couple of years.

I have no clue.
I live in Las Vegas, Nevada and it is the same way. In my neighborhood it seems everyother house is on the market, and none of them are being sold.

Our only help is Hillary. She will remove all this excess property from the market driving prices back up. She will give these houses to those who need them the most. Rich people will take care of themselves.

Real Estate business is in the hands of very rich.No sooner cheap land is available, they make a propaganda that lot of business is to come here; prices of apartment are to rise and so on.In many areas houses are lying vacant. On the contrary, many areas are having shortage of houses. Unless people learn to study this, nothing will happen. There is no point in hoping that Govt.would form a policy on this.Govt. agents politicians/administratiors are in the hands of wealthy builders who decide how to fool the public.A number of developers are selling houses at exorbitant prices at remote places in the name of second house. We can only wish you good luck!
