Anywhere that is NOT Muskoka...
Peterborough has great lakes, so does Parry Sound and all lakes North of it (off hwy 69)
Anything past Huntsville is beautiful and not as expensive as Muskoka...
If you want something lakeside start looking now... Prices that were reasonable in Muskoka a few years ago are now inflated... Most property is over a million now...

I prefer the Haliburton area better than the Peterborough area, mostly because the water is better going north in the highlands, springwater lakes and less swampy. Peterborough area may be cheaper but the lakes are swampy. Slightly north of Haliburton could be cheaper, 2.5 hour drive from Toronto. |

check out the websight mls.ca this will give you the answers that you are looking for. Muskoka is pretty pricey. The Haliburton Highlands are modestly priced and the value will go up very soon, It already has a bit. also you can check out a websight called ontariotaxsales.ca . |

North Bay (4 hours away). Bellwoods Lake (within an hour or two). Sauble Beach (2.5 hours away) and my fave place.
There are several small lakes with cottages along Georgian Bay all the way towards Killarney. There are also nice cottages there but it's pricier. I was just there last weekend and it's beautiful all the way up. Even drive up the 400 and stop by the smaller cottage communities to check them out.
But my best advice is to search MLS.ca and enter cottages in the search page. You should get some hits from all over. |
