Like the others have said, it depends on what you are looking for /subburbs, city/condo/apt/house. I suggest you look at the outskirts of ATL in the burbs. |

A lot of people will tell you Buckhead, but I guess it depends on what you're looking for. You are the only one who knows that. Personally I don't want to live anywhere close to Atlanta. |

Vinings / Smyrna area (personal choice for my situation)
Atl is really spread out and property taxes and public services vary greatly with each county. Plan to live near your job unless you want to spend most of your day in traffic |

I would say North Gwinnett 10 new schools are going up there in the next 2-5 years. Cumming is growing also. North is where the appreciation is happening! |

It really depends on what you want out of your home. If you're looking for lots of upscale subdivisions with amenities, then you'll want to move to the north Atlanta suburbs (Cobb County, Cherokee County, Forsyth County, etc). The north Atlanta burbs are largely white collar professional types.
If you're more comfortable in a blue collar neighborhood, head south of town (the exception being Peachtree City and Fayetteville). Nice people but with smaller tax bases the schools and public safety tend to be a bit underfunded.
If you like the hustle and bustle of the city, then look at midtown or Buckhead...but bring your checkbook, it gets pretty expensive.
If you want to be close to the city but still have a suburban feel, look at north Dekalb County or the city of Decatur. Decatur is known for having a very open minded community with professors from Emory and Agnes Scott. There also happens to be an active gay community in the Decatur area and the city of Atlanta for that matter...depending on what your interests are.
Vinings would also be a great location if you want to hang with the young hip crowd. |

Definitely north of I20, except for Decatur, which is nice. Best areas are Buckhead, Morningside, Virginia Highlands, in that order. Funkiest area is Little 5 Points. I would not worry about which county, Fulton or Decatur, to live in. |
