Cost of living in Alabama is very low if you are asking about the cheapest housing across the US. Mississippi is similar. You will not find much cheap housing in CA though. |

Are you looking to purchase for your own residence, or are you looking to purchase as an investment property that you want to rent out to someone else?
The reason I ask is because what you may actually be looking for is what's the lowest monthly cost for a mortgage?
There's a lot of additional factors that go into determing the monthly cost, such as: Property Taxes, Home-owners Insurance, Flood Insurance, Mortgage Insurance (if applicable), Home Owners Association (HOA) Fees, Down Payment, Interest Rate, etc ...
There's a bunch of websites you can search for homes based on price such as "realtor.com" or "justlisted.com", and many more ...
