Where is the cheapest place in the UK to live?
What is the cheapest area of the UK to buy property, housing etc, and still have the ability to work and make a living?

Greetings Dean from lovely Devon and Dartmoor .

The South West Of the UK is great place to live . We are situated in the heart of the countryside , crime is very low and the pace of life is a lot slower down here . You can still buy a decent house that needs renovating in the auctions for under £80,000 and the cost of living is a lot lot cheaper . You can still get a full breakfast for under £2 and buy a roast dinner for under £5 . Beer is good being made in devon and in dartmoor . You have the choice of both coastal and city within 1 hour of driving and you are safe enough to leave your door unlocked etc . I love it here and this is my home and with an estimated 5000 people per year wanting to move down here is proof enough why Tavistock has been voted the best town in the uk and Tamar Valley has just been given National Heritage Status . Giving it the same priviledge as the great wall of China & Pyramids etc.

If you decide to move her you really won't regret it . I have recently met new people who have moved here from Australia, Canada, America, London, Wales etc. Give it a thought at least and contact me on my 360 page or email colouracademy@yahoo.co.uk if you get would like anymore info .

Try South Wales (Cardiff), there are plenty of small "miners" houses in some of the outlying villages going at less that half the national average, you are half an hour from the outskirts of Bristol which is now a thriving city and Cardiff is home to some of the major insurance call centres. Whilst jobs are not as abundant as London (which is 2 hours by train), houses are one fifth the cost therefore the minimum wage would secure you with at least a flat of your own.
Hope this helps.

Sorry y with the culture in the U.K. of selling and buying houses. as if this is a bank investment and not a home. This country will never have affordable places to live. I live outside the U.K. in a major city that is cheaper than small towns in the U.K. to rent a flat.
Northen Ireland and Ireland used to be cheap. but now crazy. try and rent a flat in Bristol? and Cardiff not far behind. I am coming to the U.K. next year and Will stay in my Van instead of paying crazy prices for a few months

Have a look on internet - Up My Street is good for house prices etc.
Someone said Newcastle upon Tyne - depends on which part your looking at - average terraced house is over £100.000, unless of course you don't mind living with the scallies!!!!

Cheap and work do not go, if the house prices are low, the chances are there is no employment. So unless your self employed and dont need to rely on the area you live for business, you will probably struggle.
Good luck.

Inner City Leeds but make sure you can lock it up well.

Where I used to live people have been selling them for £20,000 they just want to get out.

There are quite a lot of jobs in Leeds if you are a builders or work with computers.

Hope this helps. :-)

I stand corrected the prices in Richmond Hill have gone up.
From the Yorkshire Evening Post I found the following in an article:

In Richmond Hill where I work, two years ago you could have picked up a house for £19,000, now that the same street is in a regeneration area they are going for around £80,000

clakkie
Apparantley the further North you go the cheaper it is. My sister is currently living in Leeds, Yorkshire and looking for a house. It would seem you get a lot more for your money there than you do in Birmingham. It seems a great place to live as well if you don't mind living in a very busy city.

You'll Find That Anywhere Except I THe Greater London Area, Due To High Investment In Land And Housing Develoments

Outside Is Cheaper But The Wages Seems To Drastically Be Changed, But Probably They Suit The Wages To The Economy Around You.
