Pay off the car loan - the longer you have this loan the more interest you pay.

Pay the car loan off. It would be one less debt to pay interest on that you cannot get back. The less debts you have on your credit report, the better your interest rate will be financing a house.

I just bought a motorcycle in December and pay rent to my buddy to store it. One day not soon after I thought I can afford a house and had enough of renting (wasted money to the tune of $34000 in 4 years). My credit is back to normal after divorce of 4 years ago and could afford a house, too. I move March 6. I had to wait till credit got me good rate and I had cash for a good emergency fund and closing. If you can afford it without stressing, go for it. If you have ANY doubts, wait!! Financial stress is the worst.

Check your carrying costs for both home and car. Then decide which demands the highest interest rate of the loan term and pay that one of. Use equal dollars amounts to compute the math.
Cars depreciate very fast so you will paying off something that has really little value. Do you want that burden around your neck?
If public transit is available dump the car and pay the house.
Good luck

Pay off the loan with the higher interest. 0% interest is better than 5% if its a loan.Lots of car companies are offering rates like that right now. Wish the banks would do the same for mortgages.

Can you afford both?
if you put a downpayment on a house you still have the car loan.
