Who can fund my disabled sister for assisted living housing?
Somebody please help. My older sister has a severe neurological disorder. She has to move into an assisted living facility because she cannot live alone. She has been living at UNT in a dorm while she attended classes but the government will no longer pay for her to be in school. She needs 24/7 help with tasks like cooking, cleaning, getting in and out of bed. pretty much anything that requires muscle strength that she does not have. She has social security income but it will only pay for assisted living which in my opinion, is horrible. She has said that she would rather die than live in those conditions. I wouldn't allow my dog to live there. Nicer assisted living facilities are too costly for her to pay with SSI alone. This breaks my heart. She has struggled so hard all her life and just wants a place to live comfortably. What can I do? How can we get some one to accept her SSI as enough? Can we get some one to fund her? Like the school equivalent of a scholarship? Please help fast. She must find a place to live soon because the government is KICKING her out of her dorm.

You can take care of her and get paid the wage they would pay to the assisted living person. Or hire in-home attendants. They will pay for in-home care. My friend was diagnosed with some rare thing recently. She can't walk and is in severe pain. They pay for all of it, she gets medicaid. She has people come to her home.

Call your local soc. services center and ask for help.

Depending on what state you live in, there are several options available to your sister.
I would also google the name of her condition, and look for any forums for other people dealing with the disease. Find out what resources they've found, and how they've gotten around roadblocks.
Also, why not check with Habitat for Humanity? She (or people on her behalf) will have to donate 400 hours of "sweat equity" toward the house. Are you able to help her with some of that work, and can you find family and friends that will join together to help her with that sweat equity?

I'm sorry for your sister's medical condition, however something's wrong. You're saying the government is kicking her out of her dorm. Who provided medical assistance while she was living at the dorm? Why did the gov't stop paying for her to go to school? Has she aged out or are the classes no longer available?

With not knowing which state you're in or all of your sister's circumstances, it would make more sense for her social worker to be advocating on her behalf. This person knows both the public and private resources available.

you know what go on-line and goggle her disability and usually organizations that specialize in her sepfic disability will pop up or go through social security and tell them whats going on and they'll give you a list of people and them themselves will help with funds

Awe man...that is horrible. It might help others find ideas if you can tell a little bit more about her situation. What state she is in. How old she is. How long has she been disabled. Does she have children. Can she work at all. Would she consider a group home or roommate situation. Just anything that might help people think of specific programs for her.

Contact the Volunteers of America branch in your area. They help out with people in those types of situations sometimes.
