LisaC123 | Why are flats in New York so cheap? |
I was looking at flats in New York for sale, and came across quite a few that are under $5000, why?? I am from England, so that is equivilent to about £2600, which would barely buy you a piece of land.
The site that I found them on was this: http://www.properazzi.com/search/loc/_USA%252FNew-York%252FNew-York/pt/property/st/sale/beds/0/mina/0/minp/0/maxp/400000/ft/0/sort/quality-desc/photo/0/pg/1 |

I'm sure there is fine print somewhere "listings not guaranteed" because those are: wrong.
The prices could be per month, for rental. Some people who are relocating are willing to take a rental lease, at least they can mitigate their expenses and sell later. |

$5,000 sounds like one month's rent for a place like that in Manhattan.

I really have no idea, but here is a guess!
I also have no real idea about the leases in USA, the rent to some extent would depend upon how long you could live there, so would the price of buying.
The prices of the other places, over 300k$ look far more interesting
If you compare these prices with say UK London , Harrow, you just wont believe it!
But your question is why are they so cheap?
This latest credit squeeze has hit us all,, maybe USA most of all?
If only I had a few millions to invest I would put the lot into housing, I am convinced these prices will get back to the original prices, maybe take 2 or 3 years but they will.
Why wouldn't they? No one is building any thing. No money in it!
My answer remains the same, I really have no idea and without knowing what the lease laws are all about, I cant really help. |

Everything's relative - the UK market is ridiculous, especially in London, and the dollar is currently quite cheap in pound terms, but that could well change.
The flats are not for sale at $5000. That would be rent or mortgage payments. |

Ok- if you look at all the other ads they are ranging around $390,000. I think when they typed it the left out 2 digits. Believe me, they aren't $5,000 |
