It's called supply and demand.

Cause the value of the dollar is slowly falling.

Because houses are in demand and when there is competition people are willing to pay that little bit extra, especially if the house is in an affluent/desirable area!! These ridiculous prices have got to stop though!!

Alterfemego
because we're greedy.

The population is growing but the amount of land is staying the same. Get in the market now if you can because if you think the prices today are high, can you imagine what they will be in 10-15 years?

Depends on where you are. Obviously they will be higher in New York, Hawaii, California than Texas, New Mexico, etc.
It's more expensive in certain places because ofthe shortage of land, supply and demand, taxes, values having risen a lot, etc.

Market forces.
More people want a property then there are properties available, consequently the price rises.
New house building is not keeping up with demand so each month there are effectively less properties available, so there is a shortage. When items are in short supply prices rise.
Even allowing for homes becoming vacant through death of the owners, the buy to let market has mopped up a lot of houses, so adding to the shortage of homes for sale.
Add to this that there are many more single people wanting a property (because of divorce and people stying single longer), plus the demand for rented accommodation from overseas settlers you get an overheated market;- which at present does not seem to be cooling down.

Cause if they were low, everybody would have one!

There are many reasons, but the one most people overlook are the fees and taxes that governments take. In areas in Southern California building the average home requires well more than 100K in fees. Then you have to buy the land, supplies and labor and finally add some profit for the builder. These all drive the cost up through the roof.

the raw material and labor needed to build a house cost a lot, and human resource in US cost a lot cuz every1 want a good pay, the minimum wage law and so it drive the price high
